I suppose this is where the term, Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

One thing that might be worth concidering is that the general public see a machine that looks good they would obviously think that if it looks good then it must be good and if its good then the coffee must be good. not always the case but if you think about it......

Yes, they are all very nice, all that chrome. Vroom vroom. But what are we running, a commercial operation where were run off our feet servicing customers... or more of a tranquil domestic affair: "Mmmm...I think Ill make a coffee. Do you want one too, darling?"
In that case, would we contemplate spending $5000 on a 2 group machine?

(Perhaps I shouldnt ask such a question in a forum about coffee!)

While it is probably a very good machine, it doesnt appeal to me.
With that much chrome youd need shades 8-) for every barista.  I guess youd save on internal lighting, so there is an upside to it.

I much prefer the look of this one:

    Ultimate snob/swant machine

I have seen the ultimate espresso machine. A Mistral 2-group, fully restored and for just over $5k....

If you dont know what a Mistral is and have never seen one, then check out the picture at the bottom of this article:
    http://www.home-barista.com/pros-perspective-mia-cribsheet.html

Heres a description of the machine (from teh same article):
"Mistral - a custom made, semi-automatic dual boiler commercial machine made by Kees van der Westen. The Mistral is loosely based on the Linea in that it uses many of the raw components of the Linea as starting points and builds a machine that looks a sculpture. There are, however, differences beneath the skin that are often dramatic. These include pre-infusion and some significantly altered plumbing."

Some lucky person or shop will soon own this machine. I dont think it will sit around for long. Now to get my lotto coupon.

If anyone is seriously interested in this machine, let me know and Ill point you in the right direction.
Working...
