Stunning! I've been carting a nice chunk of blackheart sassafras from place to place for nearly as long as I've had espresso gear; when I grab a precision base for the new 55mm gear its time will be nigh. Beautiful timber, and a lovely tree to boot!

Nice work Hornetb. And thanks for posting pics. Beautiful to look at.
Oh and don't be at all disturbed by Yelta's turn of phrase!
He's as straight n true as they come.

G'day Yelt's! Ya prob missed the recent 'disturbance's ' here with another cple of newby imposters starting up one of those well beaten up 'Import' threads again and spraying hollow costs statements with half the real costs conveniently left aside. But we've seen it all before...Hey!
    Oh dear .....

Here are a few I've made. I've got a few metal lathes and a wood lathe so have made a few tampers over the years. These are Tassie speciality timbers - Huon, Myrtle, Blackheart Sassafras and Eucalypt burl.

I wanted a slightly larger tamper for a new basket so I thought I'd try making something a bit different.
The handle is a 3d printed model of the Moon from a Nasa displacement map.

I made my own tamper from scratch a couple of years ago in order to perfectly fit my portafilter basket on my BES800, turned it out of wood.
Worked brilliantly and used it for years until I bought a new machine with different sized baskets
