  • Advice on water for unplumbed coffee machine

Looking to get a LM GS3, but won't be plumbed in. Its recommended to have filtered water. Can I use a brita water filter jug and use that water to fill the reservoir? Or is there a way to purchase filtered or distilled water or something by the gallon? I am based in Perth, we are renting and can't attach any water filters to the plumbing. Thanks.

    Moffee welcome to CS.
In a word ....?? I don't know. As you don't list your locality!

Use the search tool on here . This has come up Re: LM in recent times.
Some very good info / reading there.
Also search the water requirements that LM Aust State is required for their machines.
    Easily found on the web.

Id strongly suggest you need to take a 600ml sample x2, send it to Bombora and seek their report.
PS If I had a LM I wouldn't be using a counter top filter even if I was on Stradbroke Island - i.e. a large sand island and the quality of water that filters through the underground aquifers.

Also a pressurised filter system gives a far more effective result consistently. Based on that the water you have requires it.

Thanks for the helpful reply. I'm in Ardross south of the river. I have no idea what the water is like here. If I could just buy gallon containers of water suitable for coffee machines from somewhere I would do that for the sake of simplicity. Having said that I even though about getting a reverse osmosis system to attach to a tap to fill up a large container every so often, which I could then remove when I leave the rental, but would be quite messy and a big hassle. Going to spend some time reading through some helpful posts in the past. Thanks for your suggestions.

I highly recommend distilled or reverse osmosis water plus adding minerals. Either DIY or pre mixed packets such as Third Wave Water.

I recommend researching before using Third Wave water.

Fairly salty, which means high chloride concentrations* (table salt being sodium chloride). I believe the GS3 has a stainless boiler and LM recommend low chloride water.

        * I checked and assuming you are on the same water supply as Melville, TDS is about 400 with high sodium and chloride.
