Suspect that if you have an 18g basket and using a Bplus that 15g would be about right. Test and taste I guess.

tompoland I have dropped my dose from 18g to 17g in an 18gm VST basket. I'll reduce the dose by another gram and see how I go.

I don't really understand what's happening to pressure at the coffee puck by placing a puck screen between the shower screen and the coffee.

I can say that I'm getting a coffee puck that holds together and the falls out cleanly in the knock box.

Makes you wonder why not build a shower screen that is more like the Bplus puck screen.

sam678 it probably does matter. the puck is meant to be a certain distance from the shower screen (some baskets have ridges on the inside to indicate the ideal height for the puck) so if the shower screen is touching the puck screen it is too close. The idea is that by maintaining a certain distance the pressure is spot on when the water hits the puck. So it sounds like you need either a deeper basket or less grounds in the basket to lower the level. Hope that makes sense.

But if you are getting a great result in the cup and there is no damage to your shower screen then all my theories can be ignored!

    tompoland Thanks for the update.

I'm wondering how much head space is required to prevent the shower screen screw imprinting the puck screen and whether it really matters? I'm still getting dry coffee pucks and for the most part the pour is coming together quickly.

Ah yes sorry, I meant to provide an update. The oven did the trick. I tried using 95 degrees but it didn't do anything so put it up to 220 for 20 minutes and I could then flatten it out by putting between two bread boards and belting it with my fist. Hope that helps and all the best with yours sam678

tompoland did you manage to flatten the puck screen?

I have a similar problem due to the shower screen screw impression on the centre of the puck.

Let us know if you have any success.

If that doesn’t work and it needs some pressure to straighten out maybe try putting a heavy pan on it? Maybe a sandwich press as it’s warming up?
if it deformed at 90 degrees with no pressure though surely it will straighten out at that. Might even be able to get it flat pouring boiling water over it on a flat surface. Good luck!

Slowly heat it again in the oven (i.e. put it in cold), don't go much past coffee temperature. Without a basket to contain its expansion it should sort itself flat again (hopefully)

    Bplus puck screen buckled

My Bplus puck screen was left in the portafilter basket by our house sitters, while the group head was heating. Alas it's now buckled into a shallow concave shape. Any one got any ideas about how I could flatten it again? Thanks.
