You can buy a spouted espresso glass with markings to help split.

I'll probably start there, though I'm not great doing half of a liquid by eye.

Ok thanks for the advice everyone. I'll try splitting the delivery, though I need to get a dual spout for my portafilter.

Get a VST 7g basket. You'll need a suitable tamper as well (43mm from memory). See if you can leave the grind setting the same and adjust the size of the dose to get a good shot (be warned the smaller the basket the better your puck prep needs to be). It may not work with the Pullman 22g, and you might need to get a VST 22g as well. VST are the only brand you can get close to not having to adjust the grind setting between baskets. Everything else needs an adjustment.

You'll waste more coffee trying to dial in a single than you will dumping half a double.

I've only got a single spout portafilter. Also, that is a lot of wasted coffee if discarded.

Cafe style is to split into 2 espresso cups and discard/save/drink the other shot...

    Single shot espresso for GF

I've got a Pullman 22g basket and it's fantastic. I have my grind and dose just the way I want it. Tastes great.

The problem is that my girlfriend can't handle double shots and is asking me to make her a single shot. I would get another pullman but they don't have single shot baskets. I don't want to have to adjust the grind size every morning either, and I only have a single grinder.

Has anyone had any luck getting single shots out of a pullman basket? I'd happily buy the smaller one if I knew that it could work.
