Thanks for your reply. Presently using the stock BDB double basket I'm using this coffee with 19g in 38g out in around 25-27 secs. Pressure is 9 bar. To achieve 54g out for the same time would mean making a courser grind for the same 19g in, which is going to reduce the 9 bar quite a bit along with the pre-infusion pressure. Am I missing something, as this just does not seem right to me?

Yes the ratio is the important part, but the same amount of coffee in different basket will often require a slightly different ratio, so try 19:54 as a starting point and try a bit higher and a bit lower on the yield. 1:2.8 might not be a nice round number, but the ratio is decided by taste. I primarily use an 18g VST that I dose with 18.4g. Various coffees work best at yields of 30g, 34g, 40g, 43g, 45g, and 54g which give some funny ratios but that's what works best.

    Recipe Question

    Hi all,

I've been given a recipe of 21g in 60g out by the coffee roasters that I buy my coffee. I'm using stock BDB baskets and 21g is really too much for them. Is it valid to just reduce the grind amount and output by the same ratio? ie: 19g in 54g out.

I must say that 1:2.8 does sound a bit odd, but that's what they said.
