Does pouring into the portafilter cause the grind to clump again? I found this with the niche dosing cup due to the static

I have one for each of my machines (Decent and Strietman) and I like them. I still use a puck rake but I grand directly into the weber magic tumbler thingy, shake like buggery, then pop it on top of the basket and pull the middle bit up. Works a charm.

Each to his own of course but they have become part of may daily routine now.

I feel a slight need to defend these now haha - I have had some of my best looking bottomless and best tasting shots using this and wdt as per my workflow above.

I have an AE black one. I found it a pain with static keeping grinds behind in the unit and I had to brush them down every time. It did take a bit of getting used to not touching the bottom when holding it and thus dropping half the dose on the bench.

It's come back out of storage more recently since it fits the top of the Lagom Mini hopper perfectly and acts as a single dosing hopper / double dose stacker. I've since stopped using it again and just pour the beans in and start the motor with beans already in it.

All in all it feels like a solution in search of a problem to me.

I guess an each to their own. I’ve seen people love them. I guess it removes the need to have a tool with needles sticking out, could be a hazard for children I guess unless you have somewhere safe to store it out of the way or if you’re unco-ordinated and manage to stab yourself. I may just give it a miss or just check out the Ali e version rather than wasting a huge lump of cash on a genuine

Hi Filthy, it just didn’t work for me, others love them.
Try and find Tompoland’s video of his workflow on his Strietman and watch the way they work.
    He loves his apparently.
Also, the genuine unit may work better than the knock off.

I did the same and just don’t like the work flow.
I ended up with more grinds on the bench than in the basket.
Having to hold the whole thing together without the bottom falling out is a PITA.
It just didn’t work for me.

Skipping the ethics of not supporting the original creator, I have the AliE copy, which is about $20 USD delivered and appears to basically be the same with good build quality. To my taste, it almost but not quite equals doing WDT and is perfectly fine but I still like to grind into it, don't bother with shaking, then remove plunger and WDT using it as a funnel then single downward tap, remove funnel bit and tamp.

Weber workshop blind shaker or similar?

Has anyone outright purchased the Weber workshops blind shaker? Or something similar to it? I’ve just seen that this tool could eliminate the dosing cup, funnel and the need for WDT, but the cost is a bit ridiculous to purchase as a singular item as it’s $124 + $54 shipping. But curious if anyone has done it! I would be open to a group buy maybe pending if I had enough interest and if it’s a justifiable purchase
