  • Wifeproof Workflow

Have been toying with this idea for a while as my wife is on maternity leave, thought I’d throw this up for a bit of fun, and maybe to get a few unique ideas.

I’ve been thinking if I could setup a workflow that is hard to mess up for the coffee non-enthusiast.

My idea right now is bean cellars with preweighed doses -> Dialled in grinder -> Duomo with 18g VST basket for reasonable WDT (any larger doses are too deep for the needles I think) -> Puqpress / Force Tamper / Happy Tamper -> Decent (quick heating, preset profile, stops on weight, auto purges steam wand).

I can’t see anything that can go wrong with that… though I’m sure something will. Would love to
    hear your thoughts!

WDT is so good technique dependant I would skip it. My wife doesn't WDT but gets pretty good results with a quick palm tap to level. Other than that and a volumetric programmed shot instead of the decent the workflow is pretty much what you describe.

What’s a reasonable machine that can do that? Gs3 AV? R91? I like the idea of auto-purge as there’ll be hell to pay if she forgets to purge!

The Duomo thing seems as easy as WDT can be, just put it on top and turn moderately. Bloody expensive thing though.

Yeah as much as I try to the times often don’t match. Trying to get something simple going!

Have you considered the Weber Key Grinder? It has a built-in WDT tool so you can skip Step 3

I preordered a higher end flat grinder so think that ship has sailed for us! Would have been a good idea though, that and the magic tumbler.

    My setup is super easy:

Mahlkoenig E65S on a timed dose. (One bump from the portafilter)

    Pullman leveller and Tamp

Then pull the shot from the R91 with a preset volumetric profile (touch one button). That's it.

My primary school aged kids can pull a shot on this setup!

Volumetric seems to be what I need. And a big sign saying to purge and clean the steam wand.

I like the workflow from it as it’s a bit more fluid, paying a lot to save a few seconds though!

Next step is to figure out an easy WDT solution. I’m thinking of just splurging on a Duomo the eight as that doesn’t require much technique apart from spinning slowly.

I’ve also just bought one of those jugs that have a temperature sticker.
