If you place your fingers on the edge of the tamper you can easily gauge if you are level or not by feeling the edge of the basket. Both sides should be equal.

i second getting a leveling tamper, and for the money the normcore V4 cant be beat. I have been using one for a while now with no complaints. I use to use a tamping station but after getting the normcore and the puqpress, i got rid of it as it was never getting used.

The stand i had was the barista space which had height adjustability, but have recently seen some very nice timber tamping stations on etsy with built in knock box also

Just note that with the force tamper you have to use your fingers on your other hand to hold the levelling plate in place to ensure a level tamp because of the kickback.

I would suggest a tamper with a leveling plate such as the Normcore V4, happy tamper, Force Tamper etc. Otherwise I find the Timemore magic cube quite good. Cheapest place to get it is AliExpress if you don't mind a wait, otherwise Coffee Parts usually has them in stock. The only thing it doesn't do is adjustable height.

    Portafilter stand

Has anyone got any recommendations for a portafilter stand to tamp on? I've found out that when I'm tamping I tend to always tamp on an angle and need something to keep everything vertical.
Working...
