    Thanks Adventurer, yes, you're right, there's a least a 5c headroom, maybe more. I'll try for maybe a 19 or 20 gram dose and coarser grind. I've some 8-day Indian Elephants ready to go, had a couple this morning and the taste was pretty good.Sweet.

    But the one consistency is the puck stubbornly refusing to make a clean exit. I'm loading 18 grams.
    The puck was soupy on top, dry midway through, and as nearly always, breaking up and needing to be rinsed out rather coming out cleanly.
    Appreciate any thoughts.
    Robusta suggestion is -
    Add extra volume to the dose, you can then adjust the grind courser a touch as you go.
    head height gap ?
    5c = 1.35mm
    10c = 1.75mm

    At a guess I'd reckon your gap will be much more than 2mm or so.
    GL report back your findings

    Adventurer, too early to review taste. As I said, too many variables at this stage. I'm only concerned about the mess and having to go to the sink to rinse out the puck remnants instead of a quick hot shower under the group.

    Yes, that is probably it Mal. All my other baskets have a ridge, but are tapered to a degree and the pucks need no encouragement to slip out. But the Pullman is straight.

    Robusta / RR I've had this before and something minor in your 'recipe' as Mal refers to in his 2 posts above.
    If your shots back to back are consistent and tasty well then i'd experiment with small baby step changes one at a time.

    How close a match is the tamper to that new basket btw?

    And of course you know the drill taste is everything....

    I have just purchased a Pullman 18-22 g and am having the same problems . I was putting 18 g in but now use 21 g and have a solid puck but it needs a little force to knock out .I do believe the coffee is nicer but that could be other factors effecting it

    Thanks Mal. I'll give that a go. This morning I tried a gram less, 17 instead of 18, and one notch coarser, and got the same 31 grams out in 31 seconds.

    Coffee was different, Indian Elephant Hills 7 days old.

    Although the puck stayed intact, it did require quite a few knocks to coax it out.

    It's as though it clings to the sides of the basket. Dunno.

    Could try grinding just a little bit coarser, maybe upping the finishing weight to 45g or so...

    Sounds like the stuck puck happens regardless of machines. I'm struggling to think of relevant questions other than if you changed the bean roast depth at the same time?

    Pullman Puck Problem

    I have a new 17-19 gram precision ridgeless Pullman basket, and it's too early to evaluate taste quality because there are too many variables, using it in different machines, for different coffee styles etc.

    But the one consistency is the puck stubbornly refusing to make a clean exit. I'm loading 18 grams. The last extraction was 31 grams in 30 seconds. The grinds don't touch the screen.

    The puck was soupy on top, dry midway through, and as nearly always, breaking up and needing to be rinsed out rather coming out cleanly.

    Appreciate any thoughts.
