Bruister, from the tray to the bottom of the supplied double spout, on the Domobar, its 82mm and on the GPP....its also 82mm. Tilting the cups as you place them under the spouts will give you another 5mm or so.

      Bruister,

You can take the spout of one of the handle to get an extra 3 to 3.5 mm more to accomodated a lager cups, we have than this for some of our customers.

Or you can use the naked portafilter that will give to about 5 to 6 mm more

Bruister, I am able to place my Bodum glass under my VBM Domobar portafilter spouts with a slight tilt (I think the glass stands 100mm tall) but my wifes favourite monster MUG (which she still insists on using) will not fit so I have to resort to extracting the coffee into shot glasses. If I transfer the shots from the glasses into her mug right away less crema sticks to the sides of the glasses, but if I wait more crema is left behind. Im no expert but I think Im safe in suggesting that the crema adds flavour, body, etc. to your drink and the more of it you end up with in your cup the better. Based on this, I think extracting right into the glass or cup you are going to drink from is probably preferable.

For mine, a 220ml capp cup will fit under anything and would probably be as big a cup as you would really want to use at any rate :-?.

Rather than having one enormous bad one, drink 2 great cups

I reckon its best to leave the milkshake containers for charbux and the like....

You could take the grill off the top of the drip tray, that would have to give 40 mm or so extra.

That is, if your drip tray is as clean as mine...cough cough

            Cheers

How big a cup does one need for a 30ml to 60ml shot

              Not big at all

              For milk based coffee drinks
most cups that you would want to use will fit ok

                Re: Domobar Head Clearance

For the VBM DS (approximate measurements)
                  with spouts = 8cm
                  bottomless portafilter = 12cm

For any given espresso machine there is going to be a maximum height cup that will fit. Possible ways to deal with that:

1 - as you stated, pull the shots into shot glasses and transfer. If you are making drinks in cups so large that they do not fit under the spouts, the loss of crema is minimal when compared to the amount of milk added and/or the heat loss in a larger cup and from pouring.
2 - as another participant stated, tipping the cup can fit a much taller cup under the spouts
3 - get different cups that are wider and shorter that will fit, yet have the capacity that you desire.
4 - get a bottomless portafilter. Without the spouts you will/should have plenty of room.
5 - remove the drip tray cover temporarily and place the cup in the drip tray.
6 - brew into your mouth and expectorate the desired amount of espresso into the cup...  :-?  OK... scratch that one. if the cup doesnt fit, neither will your head...    :
