Re: How forgiving are these machines ?
Hi Chris, welcome to CoffeeSnobs!
Definitely give the site Sponsors a call, and find one in your area so you can go and visit them and try out machines for yourself. I found that my final choice differed from what I initially was leaning towards out of the three Id short-listed.
You can see Ive ended up with the VBM Domobar Super Lever paired with a Macap M4. Love the coffee I can produce now.
When I tested several machines at Di Bartolis in Sydney, I found that some machines were too light and moved when I put the portafilter in, some had too narrow drip trays, some didnt have enough steaming power for me, and some didnt have the recovery time I wanted for non-stop catering at home. At the level youre looking at, each of the machines is capable of producing great coffee, and it starts coming down to user preferences.
Highly recommend both of you visiting a Sponsor and seeing what you like and dislike about each machine (I travelled 2 hours to get to Di Bartolis and considered it well worth the trip to experiment).

Re: How forgiving are these machines ?
Hi Chris, welcome to CS and sorry to hear about the Pav.
In terms of the machines youve mentioned, they are all capable of making an excellent cuppa. As for which is easier to use, well in my personal opinion Id say the Giotto. Everyone may/will have a different opinion...otherwise there wouldnt be so many varieties available.
We have all the machines youve mentioned on the bench, side-by-side, and you are welcome to spend some time with us to get to know each one better - me in Sydney and Chris (Talk Coffee) in Melbourne. We also ship anywhere in AU.
Feel free to make contact if youd like further info.
Cheers!

How forgiving are these machines ?
Good afternoon
Our beloved laPavoni Lifestyle is on its last legs
and I have permission to look at a HX machine ;D. Thinking either VBM Domobar SL, Diadema Junior Extra or Giotto + a suitable doserless grinder.
Anyway does anyone have any thoughts on which machine is more forgiving or dare I ask easier to use? As Im the designated coffee maker I realise there is a learning curve ahead however my wife will be using the machine as well, now she is far smarter than I but may not have the patience to get the routine perfected.
Assuming we have the variables covered (at least some of them anyway) such as good fresh beans, a quality ginder, reasonable grind settings and some idea of 15kg of pressure then is there a standout machine in terms of ease of use ? The "coffee experience" is still the primary consideration so an automated machine is not an option.
