Re: Bezzera DG temperature
Interesting point JavaB about the design for a certain thermal loss.
The cloth is smaller than the top of the machine so airflow is not obstructed much more than the cups themselves, but it is obviously trapping some heat.
I can live with just two hot cups (six if stacked) and rotating them (as I used to).

The boiler is on the right so the cups on the left were never more than warm.

Yep.... but so is the inside of your machine!!!
The boiler.... not a problem..... but other bits can increase the extraction temperature.... and in some cases shorten the life of components (like pressurestats).
Sadly machines are designed for a certain thermal loss.... and if this isnt achieved it will upset the tuning.
Covering the top vents is very bad.... but even if there are no actual vents.... you are reducing the amount of convection cooling.
La Cimbali have two very bold warnings....
NEVER operate the pump without mains pressure
NEVER obstruct airflow on the heating tray with a towel etc
So heating cups by covering them.... sorry a no-no :-[

Re: Bezzera DG temperature
Ive left the cups on top for longer. Seems to have made a difference.

Re: Bezzera DG temperature
I have a DG and cups get very hot on top - do you leave your portafilter in the group before brewing to keep it warm?

Re: Bezzera DG temperature
Try the Bodum double wall glasses. I find a ristretto into one of the little ones is almost too hot to drink. Its much hotter than in my usual glass heated with hot water from the machine.

Re: Bezzera DG temperature
Thats an open question
The Galatea is set at 92 deg C at the Group Head
This temp falls quickly by the time it reaches the cup
My question is
Are your cups hot?

Bezzera DG temperature
I bought my Domus Galatea back earlier mid year, but only in the past few weeks have I bought a new grinder. Picked up a Mazzer Mini. The combination makes excellent coffee.
But its only warm.
Coffee was always hotter before, even though having someone else grind it always had it too course. Now its perfect for my tastes, but its never hot.
Any suggestions why, and how I can get my shots hotter?Tags: None
