    Hi Chris
I recently purchased a Veneziano S1 from a friend here in Hong Kong (he bought it in NZ), and was wondering if you would mind telling me what mods you have made - in particular the thermosyphon restrictor?  The only change my machine has had so far is to install a digital thermometer in the group head.

For servicing a Veneziano:  I had to replace the rotary pump and motor, due to the pump leaking into the motor/pump mounting flange and corroding the motor bearing.  Prior to replacement, the motor sounded like it was pumping gravel!  When I reinstalled the motor, I took the opportunity to put some high density rubber pads under the motor mount as the motor mount is bolted directly to the chassis and only uses a thin piece of foam for vibration isolation.

    Cheers
    Phil
    Hi Phil,

The work on my machine involved a thorough Scace device interrogation and the use multiple restrictors at different points of the flow pathway as well as pump pressure and pressurestat adjustments. The final result was achieved after testing a variety of bits and pieces. Peters work is/was experimental and I am unable to release the specifics.

We developed a much simplified kit (more plug and play) with good results for the Giotto Premium and Peter was compensated for his time and I.P.

My advice is to perform a search on the term thermosyphon restrictor and you will bring up the basics.

Peter may be willing to offer assistance (at a cost)...

    Chris

I made the jump from Giotto to VS1 (big Giotto ) and have no regrets. When all calibrated up with a custom restrictor set, the Veneziano is a formidable machine and as I understand after professor Peter Cairis work, was a machine which met WBC criteria.

My machine has the mods and its terrific...

Re: New Rocket Giotto with Rotary Pump!!!

I recently purchased a A2 (2 group version of the same thing). I dont have much of a use for two two-group machines but it was for a good price. Unfortunately I cant offer much advice as to how well they perform as mines currently in pieces getting a thorough clean-out. Looks are a pretty subjective thing I think, it looks nice to my eyes but I cant answer that question for you. The push-buttons along the top are a bit wobbly and feel cheap on a machine at this end of the market.

Internally its well-made, though like all volumetric machines it has a lot more electronics to break down than something like the Giotto or the S1. For home use the volumetrics are normally unnecessary and may count against it. If you have the opportunity to see it in action Id try to do that as you will get a better feel for how these things affect you.

Both have cool-touch steam wands, big enough boilers for home or domestic entertaining and (by the sounds of the new Rocket unit) the option of tank or plumbed. Taking into account the fact I havent used mine yet and the presumed satisfaction you have with your existing Giotto, I reckon the main differences are price (Veneziano) versus potential reliability, warranty and the new factor (Giotto). Youll have to decide how these factors stack up in your books.

    HTH,
    Greg

Thanks again, Chris. I appreciate your advice. Especially from someone who sells the other machines in question!

Does anyone else have the Veneziano A1? Would appreciate any feedback as to reliability, usability, looks and fun factor etc. Anything at all to convince the old lady that we need another bigger coffee machine. PLEASE!!!

    Thanks

Thanks Chris. How would I go about getting parts for the Veneziano in future? Things like the computer for the push buttons, various oilers etc?
    No probs Sienna,

ECA have plenty of them in the field and are continuing parts support. The VA1, 2 & 3 are quite common.

No brainer for the Veneziano if you ask me.

The boiler is bigger and you get the option of tank or plumbed in...

I prefer the VS1 over the VA1...but theyre pretty scarse...

If you dont buy the Veneziano, there are a humdred CSers who would like it- including me ;-)

Would be fair to say on quality the Giotto and Galatea are pretty much on a par - dont know much about the Veneziano.

I settled on the Galatea not long ago, but have the vibe pump model - youre right its sleek looking and gets noticed by visitiors - isnt that the point? - this is the first i have heard of the lady in the house not wanting bling - mine loves to be centre of attention! ;D

New Rocket Giotto with Rotary Pump!!!

Hi all. My first post...although Ive been a lurker for years! Anyway, my current machine - and one Ive had for a few years is an ECM Giotto Premium. I love it; however its time to upgrade. I still want an HX machine but I want the convenience of plumbed-in and the "serenity" of a rotary pump.

I was looking at the Galatea - which I love, but my wife is of the (very strong) opinion that the looks are too "look at me" ie arty and curvaceous. Where as the Giotto fits in with our modern kitchen - with its straight linear lines etc. In other words, one doesnt immediately notice the Giotto when looking at our kitchen as it blends in with the stainless splashback etc, however when one does notice it... its a pleasant surprise. Get me?

Anyway, a friend has an ECM Veneziano A1 for sale for $2000. My wife doesnt mind the look of this at all - except for some size issues (but shell get over that!)

Anyway I rang Salvatore, the Rocket Giotto importer, to ask some advice and he told me that Rocket Espresso is about to launch (in the early new year) a new plumbable (is that a word?) Giotto with a rotary pump and a 2nd gauge. Yay!!! He couldnt tell me too much about the one he had as he had only just taken it off the delivery pallet.

    I havent told my wife yet as I know this is what shes gonna want! Alright, now I need some advice and reassurance. My questions are;

1/ Is this a no brainer? Or should I still consider the Veneziano (which is in as new condition)?

2/ Is the quality of the Rocket Giotto as good as the Galatea?

3/ Are parts for the Veneziano still readily available?

Thanks for reading everyone. All comments, advice will be greatly anticipated and appreciated.

    Cheers Darcy
Working...
