  • ECM Giotto leak?

    Hi all,

I have been looking for a new machine and harassing a couple of sponsors for advice in the process! Im still making my mind up, but in the meantime a work colleague just acquired a "like new" Giotto, so I paid him visit to set it up and see how it goes. (Good for me as there arent any opportunities to demo a machine where I am)

After getting things set up according to instructions and letting the unit heat up, we noticed a large volume of water pooling under the unit, and the drips were coming from the power cord entry point. After shutting down and mopping up he tried again with the same result.

Does anyone have similar experiences and what should be done? I figured this forum would be the best place to get him some advice so here I am! :-/

    thanks in advance

    Daniel

    Daniel,

    Where are you located?

Many of the site sponsors sell the Giotto and would be able to assist in troubleshooting and repair Im sure.

    Brett.

      Hi Daniel,

Its most likely the tank coupling. Check to see that the tank is correctly seated and that the tank o-ring is in good condition. If its not, a couple of turns of teflon tape under the gasket will pack it out until you can replace the o-ring.

If the tank cradle has been removed and poorly replaced, this can create a poor seal on the coupling- also leading to leaks.

All of these are very quick and easy fixes.

      Good luck

          Hi Daniel,

I had What sounds like the same leak with my Giotto when I first got it. Took it back to ECA - it turn out to be coming from where one of the silicon hoses connects to the bottom of the reservoir. A quick and easy fix - they slotted a small piece of smaller hose on to it. Had no problems since.

Your mate could give Charles from ECA a call (see site sponsor <<<&lt - Im sure hed help him out.

I think that ringing the CEO of the company might be just a touch OTT  :-?...Sorta like ringing Rupert Murdoch because there a smudge on the front page of the newspaper  ;D

In my experience, its most likely one of the issues I mentioned and split hoses are extremely rare. A push or some teflon will most likely solve the problem.

                Hi there
Take the top off and if the plastic breather tube from the bottom of the tank?? has fallen down from its support you can get a leak if the tank is filled up fully as this height could be higher than the top of the tube.
This happened to me after i last transported the unit.
An easy fix to put the tube back into place and an easy first check.

Sorta like ringing Rupert? :-? Last time I rang ECA, Charles answered the phone, he even made me a cuppa when I visited (with a Giotto of course - thanks Charles). I think Rupert has someone to do those things for him ;D ,but I get your drift, Chris. Im sure Charles would put you onto the more appropriate technician (I think it was Dave who quickly got mine going).

yep, this is what i would be betting on also.
i remember the first time i opened up mine i forgot to put that hose back n its spot, filled up the water tank and the water quickly came pouring back out
