By the way - Ive checked out some threads, and that Diadema Reale IS STUNNING!! But I cant find prices or specs or pics on sponsor sites - does anyone actually sell this here?

    Interesting...mmmmmmmmm...
    Thanks for the feedback.

Errm...that would be my company CosmoreX Coffee as the importer and a vendor in this site plus other site sponsors such as Jetblack, Talk Coffee and Coffee Barun to name just  four of us.

I havent updated the machine to our website....my mistake.  No matter, its the uprated model with totally revised body style that supersedes the Unico Splendor Maxi (which in turn superseded the original Splendor a couple of years ago).

One of the threads I referred you to above has some interesting comparisons to other machines often referred for sale in this site. It makes good reading particularly as the Regal has most of the positives.

If you want any help just sing out!

Oh by the way it comes in 1.3 litre or 2 litre boilers take your pick, has ergo group handles, cool touch pipes, is temp controlled and pumps out at spec water pressure straight out of the box ie all the stuff it should have.

    After that, it works great.

There was good demo special through Jetblack (site sponsor) a little while back. Check their site.

    Thanks for all the feedback.

The shortlist for those two has been developing over a couple of years - when lots of people online seem to own them and review them positively, its a good sign in my books. Not many people buy a dud, review it and say I shouldnt have wasted my money I suppose! The diadema unico also has had a good look in - but the location in our kitchen would hide all the styling anyway.

And as for the home roasting... once I have a decent set up to test it on, that could be a very nice little hobby!

    Commercial interest firmly declared:

You would be crazy not to look at the Diadema Regal. Check out these two threads:

And the grinder of choice with this upcoming package is the Macap M4...
The Macap M4 grinder is nice

Chris at Talk Coffee offered for CS members as a special pre order price while the ship was still travelling to Australia
I ordered the stepped M4D and it was a good decision on my part

I went the Bezzera path with my first machine but I am sure that you will be happy with either the Giotto PP or VBM

We will see how long it takes for you to start roasting your own beans

Its interesting that so many people end up looking at these machines as their final two.  I wonder if it isnt a case of popularity building on popularity.

    Cheers,

    Luca
    I do own a Giotto...

In my case the decision to buy the Giotto came down to availability & support plus a bit of random selection. There may have been other machines available at that price range but the problem as a consumer is trying to find and compare different models given that no one store/company will supply them all.

Having said that, I have been happy with mine so far (minus one breakdown which was fixed quickly). Although the GS/3 is tempting ;D

Agreed Luca, though I believe its more that these machines deserve their popularity. Ive had at least one customer (who happens to be a barista) in the last few months upgrade from a 5 year old Giotto to the current model.

Both VBM and Giotto have imo, got it right in both design and functionality, so its no wonder they are popular.

Heck, I bet there was even a time when you wanted one! :

Ive been longing to embark on a VBM adventure for more than 6 months now, and Im just about ready to go - but the Giotto PP has me in a dilemma. I get the feeling from recent posts that it is a little more forgiving, a little smaller (better for taking away on holidays!) and a fraction prettier? (personal preference I know!). But is the extra pressure of the VBM, the larger boiler and easier access worth the extra money and size? We do entertain, but not huge dinner parties...
And the grinder of choice with this upcoming package is the Macap M4...

Any last advice before the next big step?

    Cheers!
    Hi Designing and welcome!

Both are great machines and you will love either one.

Buy the one that you like as either will be more than capable and will deliver an outstanding cup.

Wed be thrilled to assist with either. FWIW, we have a massive slug off a VBM DS lever in stainless. Its an unmarked demo with <20 shots. We can also shapern the pencil on a Giotto for you.

    Happy shopping

    Chris
