Also what Doser based grinder would be good for this too? I am leaning towards the Rancilio Rocky.

    Thanks
    Hi Richard,

The Rocky doser will not satify your requirements. Firstly, its messy, leaving lots of ground coffee in the base when swept clean.

Also, the dose is permanently set for the thimbles (aka baskets) provided with the Silvia- which everyone turfs because theyre too small.

Keep in mind that coffee stales very quickly as well. A dosing chamber full of old coffee will not produce a good cup.

For mine, doser grinders start to become good when youre in Mazzer mini/Compak K3PB/Macap M4 territory. By this time you are well into the $750+ range.

I was budgeting say up to 3 grand for both...
      Hi Craig
I was in a very similar boat - and with some ringing around and a great special from Cosmorex I picked up an HX Diadema Reale & Macap M4, plus a few extras for a fair slug under $3k - and cant be happier! Ive used a number of fully auto machines, which are all in the $1500 range, and small manual machines, and they all work OK for 12 months, then toss it all in.
This HX style of machine is all steel, brass and petrified wood - Im always happy to pay the extra to get something I can hang on to! And they even make beautiful coffee too! The grinder is also the goods - clean, quiet and precise.
Im in Tim the Toolman (wired on espresso) heaven! :P
      Happy hunting!
