my biggest gripe of domestic machines is the inability to be able to be able to spin milk while the shot is pouring...
You can do all that and more with a quality HX machine
Microfoam milk while pulling a shot is the reason a HX machine was made
Hot water tap as well if required for other beverages such as tea ect
And they also come in a tank or plumb in version
On another thread & during the -
Victorian Bush fires Andy Freeman donated his time & made 2000 back to back coffees on his HX machine for the folks in need of good coffee

Thanks KK
Forgot to mention that I would prefer a tank.

at work I use a Rancilio classe 8 and Robur so coming home and using non-prosumer is machine is unacceptable and my cravings arent fulfilled.. they are but i substitute caffeine for bourbon

Also as you mentioned above
Do you want to plumb it in or a tank may be more suitable
A HX machine will be in the ball park performance wise of a commercial machine and will handle 20 cups a week without blinking an eyelid
And steam power you can rave about
I purchased a Bezzera Galatea HX machine as my first machine and have enjoyed beautiful coffee from the first day
If possible go out and test drive a few models and makes.
You need to feel & be comfortable with whatever choice you make

Thanks guys..... Ive decided against purchase for a number of reasons. The new kitchen is huge but the machine location is limited to next to kitchen due to plumbing and waste. I always considered the SM as a workhorse with brute above finesse, you guys have confirmed that.
Budget, considering its for home I would say $2-3k, Ive got a grinder, Sunbeam, but am looking at the La Spaz or Macap baby models . I bought a Gaggia classic, over a year ago, but its brand new as after I first used it I wasnt impressed and has been in the cupboard ever since, so really would like something decent but not over the top.
thanks your for the points of view

Mate - its funny but every coffee I have had from San Marino machines in different parts of the state has been burnt...I understand that they run way too hot - thats just what I have heard but might explain the consistently poor shots.

Hi All,
Im looking at buying a San Marino 1 group from a friend, my concerns are mainly of any hiccups or problems that others may have faced.
Also am I making the right choice for home.. is it overkill to make 20 cups a week???
I was originally trained on a San Marino years ago but only used it for maybe 20hrs. I do remember it was possible to stretch the milk quite well; or what would be a decent machine if i was to purchase another machine??
thanks
Hi bigbean and welcome.
SM machines are not that highly regarded and you could do a whole heap better.
For CSers to assist, we need an idea of your budget.
Keep in mind that you will need to allocate funds for a good grinder and any accessories you require as well.
