Can anyone tell me what descaling solution was used to perform this operation? the post mentions 2.5 litres of solution, but what descaler and at what concentration would you recommend?
I am going through a thorough service, clean & descale of my Giotti machine after a commercial service organisation politely declined to service my machine. This was a defining moment for me as they claimed that they specialise in commercial machines. This may be a "home" machine, but it performs every bit as well as any commercial machine we have owned in our cafes.

Re: ECM Giotto boiler complete flush
Thanks guys.....
So From Wo to Go.....
1. Allow machine to come up to pressure, turn off, open Hot water wand and tilt machine toward wand to empty boiler completely.
2. Fill water reservoir with 2.5 lt descale solution.
3. Turn on machine allow boiler to fill
4. Open steam wand and remove boiler probe lead, hold up Anti Vac valve whislt boiler fills to allow air to escape.
5. Replace Boiler probe lead when water seen(filling will stop), close steam wand.
6. Turn off machine, let sit overnight.
7. Refil reservoir with clean water, Turn on, open hot water wand to drain off top of full boiler? Allow machine to come up to pressure, turn off, open Hot water wand and tilt machine toward wand to empty boiler completely, refil boiler, drain, refil, drain..........
8. Good to go?
Cheers heaps guys
PS im not writing this so much for others.......its confirmation for myself
thanks again [smiley=tekst-toppie.gif]

Re: ECM Giotto boiler complete flush
Better still, open the steam wand and then replace the bolier probe lead when you see water. Use some pointy pliers to hold the anti vac valve up as the machine comes to pressure and then its a dry operationOriginally posted by 3203170E1B565256620 link=1263871195/12#12 date=1264372658No worries about changing the pic line
To get the boiler to fill completely I simply removed the single electrical connection at the very top of the boiler. As soon as it is removed the bolier starts filling and doesnt stop until it starts squirting from the top. Where safety glasses because of the hot squirting water. When is full like this turn the machine off and leave it full of descaler overnight.
PS - Im no expert and this is just my experience so take care...
Let me know how you go.

Re: ECM Giotto boiler complete flush
I removed the electrical contact to the probe on top of the bolier and it filled to the brim (all 1.8L) with descaler - Great idea!
Afetr leaving overnight the first flush showed a little more green meaning it was worthwhile giving it the complete fill.
Thanks - very clean boiler now ;D

Re: ECM Giotto boiler complete flush
BTW, I have descaled over 3 nights now, followed by a couple of complete boiler flushes each time. There was a very small green tint to the water with the first descale. The 2nd and 3rd showed no green tint so all looks clean ;D

Re: ECM Giotto boiler complete flush
I guess you meant the HOT WATER wand as well? ;DOriginally posted by 6E5F4B52470A0E0A3E0 link=1263871195/4#4 date=1263943049I had success with filling and draining the boiler several times by emptying with the steam wand open and machine off as you suggested.
Yes, there is a probe that goes into the boiler that triggers the pump to stop filling it at a certain point, so it will not fill right up to the top of the boiler. However, you can remove that probe while flushing to get it to fill right up to the top. This is often recommended when descaling.
Glad I was also able to help out with the picture idea.

BTW, I liked your machine pic idea and copied it. We have a nice row of Giotto pics on the LHS

I drained almost 1 litre which should be about the lot for a 1.8 litre boiler.
Very happy to have a clean and descaled boiler now.
Thanks
