I have been quietly sitting on the side here for weeks doing all the research under the sun and guess what? Really not a lot closer to deciding which machine for me yet! Old Sunbeam one died months ago and was determined to not get cheapo again, so have saved my pennies and am now in the market for a machine and grinder to value up the $3k mark.

Re: confused Newbie on the loose
At the $3000 level for a grinder/machine combo there are a fair few options. Some of the differences are functional, some are cosmetic, so your best bet is to get yourself to one of the sponsors and have a look/try.
Id be suggesting a good grinder in the $800 range (Mazzer and Macap make excellent ones in that price range) leaving $2000+ for a machine. And I suspect that most sponsors would have a "package" price.
Have fun choosing.

Re: confused Newbie on the loose
If i had 3K to spare, i would go the VBM Domobar Junior and either Mazzer Mini or Compak K3 touch grinder. Check sponsor specials... you are on budget.
I dont think anybody on these forums would say that the combinations above would be a bad choice at all!

Re: confused Newbie on the loose
Hi suep and mongoose and welcome to you both...
Its a jungle....
You are most welcome to call for assistance or perhaps http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1163933911/10#10 might be a start...
One thing we guarantee is to tell you what we dont like about every machine we sell and not a single one is perfect (for me at least). Its about buying the right machine for you and doing it just once in my opinion....
We have some patently stupid prices at present :

Re: confused Newbie on the loose
At least you have a decent budget. I was in a similar position recently when my Sunbeam died.Originally posted by 65435346534451445758360 link=1268378148/0#0 date=1268378148I have been quietly sitting on the side here for weeks doing all the research under the sun and guess what? I only did a bit of research and ended up with a Vibiemme Domobar Jnr and Mazzer Mini - and couldnt be happier.
Its not that hard. Just go and see one of the site sponsors and have a play around. Youll work it out.

Re: confused Newbie on the loose
The choice is huge in your budget:
Bezerra BZ07
Bezerra BZ99
Diadema Regal
Diadema Junior Plus
Expobar Leva
Expobar Minore III
VBM Junior
Isomac Tea
Isomac Alba
Isomac Millenium
Wega Mini Nova
There are probably more but all of the above are good machines and you would probably be happy with any of them considering what youre used to.
Its been said a couple of times already but cant be said enough, go and visit a sponsor. See the machines, touch them, feel them, drool on them (ok maybe not that) and of course use them! No doubt youll get great advice and a good package deal too Im sure!
Choice of grinders is also big. First thing to work out is if you want doser or doserless. Just to name a few:
Compak K3 Elite
Compak K3 Touch
ECA KS doserless
ECA Best
Mazzer Mini
I think most will recommend the K3 or Mazzer Mini.

This is Coffee Snobs; weve stepped up from average.Originally posted by 5A71726F747C4257787C731D0 link=1268378148/18#18 date=1268440656sometimes you need to have the average to appreciate the best
I tend to drink "better than average" (mine) to "some of the best" (well known to CS members).
As for your sarcasm, do you think you should have taken some time for us to get to know you first before attempting it?
The written word in online forums does not lend itself well to sarcasm.
If only there was a sarcasm smiley to help. :
I wont hold that against you considering your choices.Originally posted by 5A71726F747C4257787C731D0 link=1268378148/18#18 date=1268440656i am guilty of purchasing coffee from a popular franchise

Confusion rectified!!!
Dropped in on Chris at Talk_Coffee this morning. Picked his brains over a cup or two of his Urban Blend (Mmmm) and left with a Giotto PP & K3 Elite. Couldnt help but be impressed by the Mans knowledge and passion.
Now the fun starts. No sleep tonight... ;D ;D ;D

That sounds awesome. Good choices. The Giotto is a sexy machine. Sounds like a good combo. Have fun.
