  • Vibiemme versus Diadema

Ive been using a Rancilio Miss Lucy for about 9 years. Im planning to upgrade (and then might sell the excellent Miss Lucy).

Anyhow, I narrowed my search to the Vibiemme Domobar Super and the Diadema/BFC Junior Extra and perhaps the Bezerra Domus Galatea.

Im leaning towards the Vibiemme with the larger boiler and higher wattage and I prefer its look (although less than an Elektra / Bezarra).

What do you think in terms of judging between these (all excellent) machines using the E61 group. Is it purely aesthetics ?

Get some hands on test drives
What looks good on specifications & photos may not translate to your personal ergonomics

All are good machines but its how you you interact with each machine ? This will determine the one for you

As an owner of the Bezzera Galatea I can vouch for its superb build quality

So what are you waiting for - go & get caffeinated

Theyre all good. dont forget the Rocket Giotto PP. You could go insane tossing up between machines which are all great and have slight nuances/pros and cons between them.

At the end of the day try and have a play with some of them and make your decision based on looks, feel and also try and pick the brain of the salesperson about which one has better internals.

For example I recently chose the VBM Domobar junior based on coffee making ability (although all the ones youre considering can make great coffee), also looks, steam power, and most importantly reputation and build quality and internal design.

Having said that - there really isnt much between the three you have chosen.

It gets said time and time again, but visit a site sponsor (or a few) and have a play around

      Good luck

Would recommend finding the sponsor local to you and making an appointment to see the machines in their sexy stainless steel flesh. :-*

Best advice is always to visit a local and reputable specialist espresso machine retailer, such as any one of our esteemed Site Sponsors.

You cant really select a machine all that easily just by looking at the glossy pictures and their specification sheets; you have to make the effort to visit a dealer and play with the various machines that are on your short-list, and maybe even some that arent....

Have fun while youre doing it though..... ;D

Both are great machines PJL, you really can choose the one you like the look of better. None of the machines mentioned in previous posts are "just toys" :

VBM:[*]Bigger drip tray[*]Commercial pressurestat[*]Quicker to get into for service[*]Tank is filled through a small opening but at least its big so you dont fill as often[*]Big steam (wide valve openings) but the wands take longer to learn

Diadema:[*]Better external finish[*]Tank more likely to break if dropped[*]Cool touch wands, great porting but lower steam pressure (still more than ample) as valve openings are narrower. Easier to learn.

As for boiler capacity, I reckon that its pretty much irrelevant from about 1.3L onwards if the machine is well set up (and the HX is well designed: some are, some arent)- unless you plan to make 10 long blacks back to back every time you make coffee? The VBM Domobar Junior will do 2 x shot + 2 x milk back to back for as long as you want to stand there, as will the Diadema Regal 1.3....The rest comes down to your perceived bragging rights and whether you really feel you have to have that V8 to negotiate traffic jams

I also thnk you could look at the Giotto too as its a huge seller for us.

We have a VBM DS lever stainless low use demo model at $$$ off http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1163933911/9#9 which may be of interest and can always create a competitively priced package. Other offers can be found on our CS member web page. You will need to use the secret handshake to enter!

            Hope that helps...

Thank you all for the excellent advice. Ive now had the opportunity to see the Vibiemme and the Diadema side by side - the latter slightly larger but seems to have a slightly better finish. The metal used for the frame of the Diadema also seems a little thicker.
