I just measured my junior, the specs are wrong, it actually is 42cm deep (in total not including the bulge for the handle on the drip tray) as per coffeeshots post above. So now I guess that would change the goal posts and you should consider other machines with a depth of 40cm or so, eg Diadema etc.
Oh and I was that close to having my mind set on the Jnr based on a purely objective, mathematical decision. Its always the way!  I think I will need to go and inspect them up close when the time comes.  Cheers for the measurements though!

So Im guessing the Jnr would just fit on a 380mm bench.

I could be wrong ... Ive never seen a Jnr in the flesh and I might be just getting confused ... but I think it was established here that the depth of the Jnr is closer to 40cm.

Its surprising that there is such a discrepancy between the specs and actual depth - I just measured my super as a sanity check and its 530mm as per ECA specs (that includes 25mm or so for the handle on the drip tray). So Im guessing the Jnr would just fit on a 380mm bench.

I know its only 5cm .. but bench space is critical for us urban types. Especially those who would take good coffee over a house in Sydney.

I went from a VBM to a Elektra Semi Automatica which has a tiny footprint and is an amazing machine. The steam wand is fantastic but if you are preparing many milk drinks in the one session then its hopeless.
The Elektra is a sexy sexy machine.  Although I wonder if Id be trading depth issues for height issues!

Interesting. I never have a problem doing continuous milk drinks with my semi auto Elektra. Maybe Im just slow.
Actually your right. The recovery is fast so in everyday use its not bad but still a step down from the VBM which seems to have unlimited steam power.

    Hello Dan,

FYI I have taken some measurements for you to compare with in your search for a machine with smaller footprint:

    Diadema Junior Plus Levetta:
Measurement along the outside edges of the feet front to back is 391mm

If you the feet are refitted into the more rearward mounting points, this reduces by 50mm to 341 mm.

For comparison the Splendor measures up at 338mm

I also took some photos in the showroom with your model side by side with the the Junior, and then the Splendor. All of them are hard up against the back wall, showing the difference at the front.

If you contact me off line I can send them to you.

But for a small footprint, quality HX machine I reckon the Diadema Junior is hard to beat. A compact, impressive package for sure.

The Domobar Jr is certainly a lovely compact little thing.  Ive also been considering machines with small footprints and dont know of any other HX machine that compares.  Probably the closest is the BZ07 25cm (w) x 42.5cm (d) x 37.5cm (h)

    The Jr is 22.5cm (w) x 35cm (d) x 40cm (h)

Depending on what your current coffee usage is consider a Lever for small footprint you wont beat it you also can drop from steam to shot like the HX. Not for everyone but while you are renting might be worth considering it and pocket the change over buying a smaller HX.

After reading your OP I went and measured the depth of my kitchne benches; a super would hang off the edge.
Yep my super has lived on an Ikea kitchen trolley since I got it. Its always been a matter of whether the trolley will then fit in kitchen (in my last flat it was almost in the living area).

Thanks for your suggestions guys. I think Im just gonna have to bite the bullet and sell the machine and take it from there.

Does the VBM junior come with the option of the black case or is it only avabilable in full stainless steel?
The Domobar Junior is stainless steel only. Dennis has one on his bench at cuppacoffee if youd like a look/play

I have not seen a Jr in black unlike some other VBM models but best contact a sponsor like Di Bartoli or Jetblack or cuppacoffee if youre in Sydney.

If depth is your greatest concern then you could consider the Bezerra BZ99 which is only 38cm deep.  Not as pretty as your Super but from all reports its a bullet-proof machine.

Yeah I did see the Diadema Junior through the other recent topic VBM Jnr vs Diadema Jnr, it seems to be about halfway between the super and vbn junior in size, and similar to the BZ07, possibly still a bit on the big side.

It certainly puts it into perspective to know that its a smaller footprint than the Sunbeam.
