  • Giotto driving me nuts.

I recently started a thread entitled Giotto light on but nobody home.  This is a continuation.
I have head the machine back to the service centre 3 times. Each time they tell me the problem is fixed.  Each time I bring it home and it is as bad as it was before.  Picked it up today (1 hour round trip) and problem still exists.
    The problem:
Lever operates smoothly when cold. When at temperature, the lever goes up about 30 degrees and gets stuck.
N.B. This has nothing to do with the switch or the cam hitting the switch.
Its as if the increased temperature causes the piston or whatever it is that the internal brass cam hits to foul somehow.
I persevered and it eventually went up, but theres a bit of tension when it goes up.  Then it seems OK and then it gets stuck again.
I am at a loss as to what to do about this.  The service centre seems to have run out of ideas too.
The problem did not exist before I had the electronic relay thing repaired and the seals replaced.
I would be very grateful if anyone has any ideas as to what the specific problem is.
The Lever is as smooth as silk when its cold, but its as if its clamped down when its at temperature and only goes up about 30% of the way.

    Thanks in advance!

The whole lever section must be pulled apart and redone
Also the mushroom needs to be removed and the whole area flushed as calcium may have been dislodged and is fouling the rod

I feel that something is misaligned or grime if fouling the system

Satisfy yourself that its definitely the lever first by pressing in the microswitch with a finger and then testing the lever. Can you replicate the fault? Some microswitches can become sticky and this would produce exactly the fault you describe. A position reset or lube will solve this.

If you isolate it to the lever, as KK has suggested Id pull down the entire group for inspection and would be looking closely to check that that the anatomy and installation of the three valves and springs is correct. Id be inclined to replace them while everything was open.
