BZ99 trouble
Hi all,
I cant find my old post re my troublesome BZ99 but id like to thank Renzo for his help (diagrams and all).
I have taken the machine to a doctor here in Hong Kong and although they said that they have adjusted it, it still performs in a way it didnt before. There is no crema where before there was and the brewing time is about 40-50 sec for 30ml (two cups, 30ml each). Perhaps its time to sell and upgrade..... :-)
Thanks again for all your help..

Re: pressure on BZ99
Hi all,
A number of years ago I adjusted (blindly, I just turned the screw one cycle clockwise... perhaps more than one cycle) the OPV on my BZ99 and was delighted at the huge difference re crema that came out. This time the machine came back and the most noticeable thing (besides the lack of crema) is the increased length of time that it takes the coffee to come out once the water button (green) is pressed. For this reason I thought that perhaps I can do what I did all those years ago.
Talking to the repairman is a no-go due to the language barrier... trust me, its more difficult than doing it myself blindly :-)
Ive coursened the grind and Ill see how it all comes out...
thanks,
Tal

Re: pressure on BZ99
i guess you could at least easily check yourself if water is coming out the over pressure valve - if nothing is coming out, it wont help adjusting it!

Re: pressure on BZ99
I gathered that the "service" would include checking the pressure.Originally posted by 4F7B6C7A61564A666F6F6C6C090 link=1294112757/6#6 date=1294188593It is extremely unlikely that a service tech would adjust anything that doesnt have anything to do with the problem or repair at hand and would nevr go looking to adjust the pump pressure bypass unless there was a reason which I gather in this case, there was not.

That cant be a major pain.Originally posted by 4F7B6C7A61564A666F6F6C6C090 link=1294112757/6#6 date=1294188593call your repairer

Afriad that, blind diagnoses resulting in ad hoc adjustments cant be made unless you are prepared to possibly even worsen the situation. The machine should go back for service. Be prepared it may have nothing to do with the previous repair and will be chargeable as a separate job. This happens occasionally, people get frustrated and upset and.....thats life.
First try buying a packet of readily available european style beans and see if you can get the set up of grinder and machine to brew properly with crema. If you can, suggest the problem may be with the beans you have been using and not the equipment.
If you still cant get any joy however.....call your repairer and discuss with them. Its the only way.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for your reply. I dont know if the mechanic adjusted the pressure but I assume that he has. What concerns me is that no crema is coming out of fresh beans (self roasted) regardless of grind setting. Where before I would use about 3 clicks from 0 on my Rocky grinder, now I have to use about 7-9 just to get some coffee out. I remember that years ago I adjusted the bypass on the pump outlet (under the water tank) and perhaps that is the root of all problems.
Save taking the machine back (I currently live in Hong Kong and taking the machine back to the mechanic is a major pain), how should I go about setting it up...
Much appreciated,
Tal
Before you do anything try cleaning the grinder first
You would be surprised at the results after a good grinder clean
In any case if you try adjusting the OPV (over pressure valve) without a gauge you would be doing it blind
Is your BZ99 a tank or plumbed in model ??

Re: pressure on BZ99
Tal;
One have nothing to do with another. Pressure switch is on relation to your water temperature and your steam pressure. Pump pressure is to do with the OPV, may be he has adjust that.
I assuming you still in HK, remember that the weather play a major factor when you adjust your grinder as well as:
* Dosing and collapsing
* Freshness of your beans
* Tamping
I will follow KK advice ask the technician if he has adjust your pump pressure.

Renzo

Re: pressure on BZ99
First of all check with the service person if the bar pressure was adjustedOriginally posted by 36232E2023312A232C420 link=1294112756/0#0 date=1294112756Hi all,
I have just put my BZ99 in for a service and a replacement of the pressure switch. The machine is back but it seems to choke on my normal grind settings. I have to coursen the grind by about 3 clicks (on a Rancilio Rocky). Can someone please advise me what do I have to adjust in the machine itself in order to increase the pressure??
Thanks,
Tal
If so from what pressure to the new setting??

Re: pressure on BZ99
Firstly, lets assume that if it has a replacement pressure switch its been adjusted already to the correct pressure unless youve measured it and its wrong.
If you dont know its wrong, adjust the grind; the pressure may have been too high previously, hence the need before for the finer grind.
Secondly, contact the service person and ask if they adjusted the pressure during the service (otherwise what were you paying for?) and to what pressure they adjusted it to.
