  • Giotto PP Boiler filling up more often?

The pump on my Giotto Premium Plus seems to be filling the boiler more than usual lately - like, every time I switch it on. Whereas before, it would fill every 3 or 4 sessions. I am pouring only 1 double and steaming 1 jug of milk each time, so Im not using much water. Is this a sign some maintenance is needed? I water backflush regularly and chemical backflush at least once a fortnight. The machine is about 8 months old... time for a descale and service by a professional maybe?

My GPP usually runs the pump when it gets switched on - not every time and I have the same usage as you.

Ill leave it to the more technically proficient to advise whether there is a problem or not.

I also completely empty the boiler  at least once a month.

Excuse my ignorance but why do you empty the boiler monthly? And is it a matter of simply removing the water reservoir (so it doesnt repump) and flushing water through the head?

Assuming everything else is normal and there are no leaks, it may just be more sensitive to lower water level.

Sometimes, this behaviour can be caused by a scaled, fouled or otherwise flaky boiler level probe.

Id pull the mushroom and check for scale and if its present, have a look at the boiler probe as well.

        Hope that helps.

Thanks. Might leave this to the experts though as the machine is still under warranty. I figure it may well be scale - as the machine has never been descaled before.

Just to ensure it is filled with fresh water at least once a month as a maintenance routine.

Just turn the machine off and turn on the hot water tap (my machine is next to the kitchen sink so I can drain it directly) and the steam tap.

I then empty the water tank, wash it and fill it again with completely fresh (filtered) water. Turn the machine back on and let the pump fill the boiler again

I was told this is a good idea. I dont know if it is related to your problem if there is one.

I also empty a cupful of water from the boiler a couple of times a week by making a long black or just emptying some out.

Re: Giotto PP Boiler filling up more often?

              Hi
My Giotto tops up either after I have steamed (500ml of milk) or when I turn it on, or both.  I have the same usage as you.  I worry if it doesnt.  It is just a top up, not a long drink, and if hot does not alter the boiler pressure (temperature) very much.
              Sounds normal to me.
