Re: Looking for an upgrade of espresso machine

my search seems to come to the end. order has been placed for Expobar 2boiler/PID. 4th version. It takes just to wait couple of weeks. Machine arrives directly from Crem factory in Valencia/Spain.
Sales support was great as well as the final price as like as for wholesaler.
Im just hopping for safe and pleasant journey for my machine.
Hardly can wait to put hands on it and to pair it with my K-10, my spanish armada

Re: Looking for an upgrade of espresso machine

thx, chris for your kind help.
Im a little bit confused as under cod name of Izzo Vivi MKII Ive found it to be HX machine and at other place to be single boiler m. Another problem is that here at my local market there is nothing actually for home users, gaggia mdf and baby are top available here, so its hard to make some modifications with dealer based in germany or england. Otherwise Diadema Perfetta or Quickmill Eliana/Alexia with PID added would be my pick.
Thats why Im forced to take already "assembled" configuration of machines.
Expobar Leva and Vivi Izzo are in the same price range (+50eur Vivi) at the same brits dealer.

    Hi,
I will back up what Chris says. Ive had a Vivi from Den at Cuppacoffee via Chris for three weeks. Works a treat. No cooling flush, just great coffee. A fantastic machine, looks great in the kitchen as well.
    Pete
    Thanks Pete!

Itd be terrific if you could post some footage of yours someday. It would make a great comparison

    Glad youre enjoying your machine.

I like the Vivi el c- but then I should as if I didnt, I wouldnt import it!

I found that a heap of Scace work was required to turn it into a great machine, so you would need to check that your dealer is capable of doing that work- or you will find a huge cooling flush and a machine which is not pleasant to use. The ewetoobe attached shows an example of before and the machine is a long way from perfect IMHO. We have no cooling flush after our testing and mods. The K3T or anything better would be a good match.

there are 2contenders left in superfinals to pair my newcomer K-10- expobar office leva dual boiler /pid and izzo vivi pid. not so sure what to pick. both machines seems nice.I believe that Expobar stays in shadow of famous italian machinebuilt companies as well as Compak to Mazzer/Macaps and that should explain a quite price difference. or I am wrong :-?

Re: Looking for an upgrade of espresso machine

I have a machine with an E61 (expobar), and one without (rancilio). The biggest bonus I find with the E61 is that it heats up quicker, besides the expobar e61 having a boiler 1/2 the size of the rancilio epoca, the rancilio depends upon heat transfter from the boilers brass connection, the e61 uses hot water via the thermosyphon, which is quicker than conduction like on the rancilio. Bezzera have easily replaced electric elements in some of their prosumer range groupheads. Parts for e61 are also very easy to get ...... they all pull great shots when upto temp, the e61 is at temp quicker. Reasonable grinder and FRESH coffee make the biggest difference ...... after market pid .... expensive, they need to make money on just the pid, whereas people who make machines make money on the overall machine .....

    I agree with "galumay"... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Reputable espresso machine manufacturers design their machines from the ground up where all operational aspects are considered, especially everything within the hydraulic circuit, which includes the Group Head...

Whether a machine uses an E-61 Group or not is inconsequential if the rest of the machine hasnt received adequate engineering analysis. Go with a machine that has an industry reputation for performance in all the criteria that you consider important, learn how to drive it properly, use freshly roasted beans and then simply enjoy the coffee..... Perfect. 8-)

    There are two questions:
1/ how much importance really has e-61 group  for quality espresso shot?
2/ from pure espresso shot aspect which type of maschine single boiler/HX is easier for using?

    thx in advance guys.
    My personal opinion is,

1/ Almost no importance, there are other groups as good or better than an e-61. The fact a machine had a different design group on it has never stopped me owning one.

2/ I dont believe you will see any difference once either type is dialled in and you have learnt to get the best from it.

Re: Looking for an upgrade of espresso machine

getting back to my openthread story in the meantime I became a proud owner of K-10 wbc. Still cannot decide about espresso maschine and need more advice.
However as a pure espresso shot customer, basically decided to go for quality single boiler maschine with PID and e-61 group.
But,cannot find such a maschine existing.
Quickmill Silvano,Silvia,Lelit Pro or Ascasso have a PID,but dont have e61 gtroup, whilst IZZO Vivi is,as far as I saw HX maschine but with all my requirements.

and look at a big conical grinder (eg. Mazzer Kony-e).
according to mazzers retail policy for 2011, seems there is no Kony anymore as superjolly e has been introduced.

That means basically, Robur as the only conical grinder (beside volcano and industrial grinders).
    Looks very strange.

From my point of view might change m4d to m7d
Id just like to apologize for missleading information posted.
Obviously Kony is there and still will be there. I just got retail price list from LM retailer where Volcano was offered as replacement for Kony. Volcano Mazzer make just for LM distribution.

You sure about that mate... :-?

Mazzer still list the Kony-E on their website and for what its worth, the Super Jolly-E is in a completely different category of use. Im sure that if Mazzer had this intention in mind, our Aussie distributor and vendors would have heard about it.....

    Mal.
obviously jolly cannot substitute kony. but I cant see it at their retail price list (valid possibly for italian domestic market)
