    Hmmm....

I dunno mate. The pour didnt seem too bad to me, I must say.

Those holes in the top of the puck could be the start of channelling, hard to say. If you are getting channelling here, itll be down to the Tamper most likely - Too much space between the sides of the Filter Basket and the O.D. of the Tamper Base...

You could probably finesse your Dose/Distribution routine somewhat in order to ensure uniformity and consistency (basically, make it simpler and less likely to introduce anomalies).

Once you can grab a bottomless Group Handle, it will be a lot easier to see whats going on of course - Perhaps you can borrow one...

Not much more that I can think of mate.... :-?

    Mal.

yeah like I said it looks better than most that I do due to the freshness of the beans. But it looks poor in comparison to the singles...

Heres a single extraction, with little regard to the grind setting... beans are a few days older in this vid too, but still flows like honey 8-)

Looks like you are leaking from around the top of the portafilter in that last one.

How do the single shots look with the double spouts, or the double shot with the single spout? Cant really compare the pours without taking this variable out.

The double shot looked fine to me.

Have you tried grinding finer, not collapsing, tamping and then refilling, collapsing, tamping but instead just filling once?

I fill once, round off the top with my finger to a dome tamp lightly and thats it.

Yeah the gasket is a bit hard

I had a good double today with a simplified dosing method (no knocking down on the bench, just resting the tamper on it) - back to a method I used to use.

Re: Doubles vs singles - not what people say...

I had the exact same tamper as you (well, it looks identical...aluminium?) and it was a millimeter too small for my double basket
I was suffering similar issues as you, so hunted for one that fit my basket with barely any wiggle room, and noticed an instant and definite improvement.
Another thing i learned was to take care when tamping- keep the action as vertical as possible. Its hard to tell from the video angle but it looks like you leaned forward a little when tamping.
I also dont know about the fill-level-rest-fill-level-tamp method..never worked for me, I just fill-level-tamp.
Id be interested to know if you do change tamper whether your grind becomes coarser. With a new tamper, i realized i had previously been grinding too fine, to compensate for uneven puck density around the edges.
              Good luck.

Also my evening shots are always better because the machine has been on a little longer, and from a warmer ambient temp. Plus, not being half alseep in the mornings doesnt help (tho sometimes, oddly, it does!)

Im still surprised by the difference having a pullman tamper fitted to the synesso basket made. I firmly believe that helped a lot with reducing the flow around the edges.
