  • Introduction and advice to a new snob with a Giotto

    Hi All

Firstly I would like to introduce myself to all the lovers of coffee out there. I am a long time coff-a-holic and short time lurker on this site. Now that I have jumped in with a purchase of some equipment, thought it was about time to put my hand up and get some advice

A second-hand ECM Giotto and Best grinder have fallen into my hands recently so I have a few questions that I would like answered
1- Even thought this machine has had minimal use it is still a few years old. Before I start my journey into coffee snobbery I would like to have the machine bench tested to make sure it is running at its optimum levels. Assuming it is in good mechanical order, what would be recommended to have done? Who would be best to do this work (Northern suburbs Melbourne)? What would be the estimated expenses for such work?
2- My partner and I would like to get some  professional lessons to steer us in the right direction. Would I be right is assuming the in-house would be the way to go so we get to practice on our own equipment. Who can be recommended for this that covers the Northern suburbs of Melbourne
Thanks in advance for any advice given. Look forward to sharing in the wealth of knowledge in this site

    Regards
    The Builder

Over on the left hand side are a heap of sponsors, some of whom offer the services youre after. If you let people know which city/town youre in well be able to offer some more tailored advice

Great, thanks Chris. Your response was very informative.

That has got the Machine sorted. Now we need someone to sort out me and my better half. Any recommendations from experience of someone to teach us the art of extracting liquid gold from the brown bean?

There are few better than Dave Seng of The Espresso School in my opinion.

I think he does in-home training as well.
