A bit dissapointed with Espresso Breakdown at Capalaba. Machine has been with them for one week and two days and they still havent looked at it.
I must admit, I did find that a bit annoying as well, so got myself a Syphon and did some work on learning to roast for and percolate using that while I waited.

Bit rough asking me for $77 up front just to look at it and not providing the service. Excuses were "tech guy isnt back yet" and "well ring as soon as he gets back" - guess what, they havent rung back.

    Hello Smitty,

I havent been inside a Classic for a while, but as I recall, your machine will need a control board and a current wiring loom. There is too much different about your machine to use the existing loom, so it will need to be replaced with a current loom which will rewire it to current specs. Depending on the specifics of your machine, other mods may be required as well.

This is not a cheap job and will cost you over $300, most of which is parts cost. The installation should take 30-45 minutes if your tech is familiar with the job

Hope youre up and running soon.

    Chris

Looks like a Control Board problem and rewire to 2010 specs.
Has anyone have an idea on the cost to to have this work done.

I have had my Giotto Premium serviced a few times by Espresso Breakdown who are based in Capalaba. They have done a good job each time. In both cases I had problems before I took it in which were caused by scale build-up, due to my own neglience, and I asked for a full service while they had it. I prefer not to comment on:
    (and wont rip you off)
Different people have different expectations. I feel that if you spend good money on a good machine, then you can expect a certain amount of maintenance costs to keep it in prime condition. They charge a fee for it to be looked at then obviously costs based on what is required to be done. You can book a service on the web and they will call you to make arrangements and explain the costs. Its actually probably easier just to give them a call first. If you have not had your one serviced in the 7 years since you had it, then its probably worth getting it serviced. It would probably require at least new group head seals and screen etc anyway, unless you have changed them yourself.

The only negative aspect with EB is your machine does go into a queue, and I imagine commercial cafes etc get preferential treatment, as they do service the industry. Last time I was without it for over a week, which seemed a lot longer at the time. However I also suspect they prefer working on robust E61 style units than el cheapos and autos. I bought myself a syphon and used that as a fallback, and learning experience. PM me if you want more specific details as they are obviously not a CS site sponsor.

Giotto Classic ticks like a clock

Have had my Giotto classic for 7 years now, no problems at all, but lately it ticks for about 20 minutes on start up. The sound is like a tick tock much the same as a clock.
Any suggestions what it may be. Or does anyone know a good (and wont rip you off) service company in Brisbane.
Working...
