Have the double baskets been distorted by the excessive force you needed to remove them as per your first thread?

Where are you located? Maybe someone local has some spares. I know I do
Thats what Im thinking too.... I kinda went to town on that thing.... Im actually ordering in a couple of VST baskets, so thatll probably solve all my issues and more from what I hear.

SO Ill keep you all posted if there is still a problem after the new baskets but if not thanks really for all the advice.

Try swapping the basket to your other portafilter. Lugs can wear too

True, but not in 3 weeks or so I assume. I kinda leave that one ambiguous in my original post. Apologies.

However, following your advice I fitted my double portafilter with the single basket and the blind basket( just for kicks) and it actually fits into the group really nicely. So Im assuming its the double basket I got from Rocket thats causing me all the problems.... Curious...

My naked portafilter though remains a problem. Goes way to the right no matter what basket I put in it.... which leads me to believe I may have bought the wrong portafilter... BUT, I am very happy with the tripe basket shots Im getting... Nice body, nice puck.

Very strange. What about filter baskets, stock or other?

Any way to acurately measure the thickness of your group head gasket (calipers) just in case.

Well, they are stock baskets, but just to go on that tangent I tried my single portafilter, that I hadnt even touched until now and that fits perfectly...... I feel the basket hitting the gasket at 6 O clock and its nice and snug just a bit more to the right....

So is it the filter basket? I have no idea....

And no, I dont have a way to measure the gasket.

Standard for a Giotto is 8mm. We can get 8.5 and 9.0 in addition to 0.5 and 1.0mm spacers. So far I have never used more than 9.0 even in my old faema at 47 years old.

So whats going on? Help would be much appreciated.... I feel stranded going into the easter long weekend.... cant even order in a 8.5mm gasket or something....
    Is the coffee ok?

Not anymore, actually... Ive had to under-dose more and more and consequently having to bring the grind finer and finer. The flow doesnt look right, and honestly I can pull a more full body coffee with the Rancilio..... Also, my puck is just a muddy slosh now.

How much force have you been using to lock in the portafilter?

Are you using the original pf or a bottomless one?

Not much force. I stop when I feel a bit of resistance. In fact I dont feel any resistance what so ever until about 5 0 clock....

I use both the original and a bottomless.... originals slightly better, but not by much.

Just had a look at the other thread which said this is a brand new machine, so you shouldnt need the spacer.

    Hmmm....

Well, mine doesnt have a paper spacer and while Id be happy to just get a .5mm spacer Im just wondering how normal this is.... Dont you have to wear down the lugs of the portafilter or the grouphead to need a oversized gasket...

Giottos usually (or maybe always) use a paper spacer gasket which sits above the main rubber group head gasket. It is about 0.5mm thick and the rubber gasket is 8.00mm thick

This should result in the portafilter locking in at the 6 oclock position.
Not in the hundreds of new ones I have seen
