Re: Upgrade my Giotto
Thought CSers might be interested in reading this...
A Perth client purchased a GP a few years ago and later upgraded to a 1gp Synesso Cyncra. Needless to state that he knows his stuff....
This week, our Scace and I spent 2.5hr on his old Giotto which now lives at his Melbourne pad- he travels a heap for work...He wanted it perfect so we further tested and made slight adjustments to our stock kit (at a cost
)
Part of his email to me read:
Having worked with the mods for a second day, I can say that they have a made a big and very-satisfying difference. The summary statement would be that it is much more like working with my Synesso than a small machine: minimal flush, great stability and good end result if I say so myself. In fact, I am sure that I couldnt taste the difference between a shot I prepared with the Synesso and the Giotto now.
Big call, but were delighted that hes happy 8-)

Hi Gracey- you can bump a thermostable Rocket to 1.2 bar...bump awayOriginally posted by Gracey link=1180142910/60#70 date=1213358601Bugger, I hate neon.Nar Gracey,

Chris, I note that you say the rocket giottos are running "a little cooler"
I have no concerns about mine. Love the coffee. BUT. I notice the pressure is definitly not reaching 1.1 bar -(just a hairline ove 1.0). Should I worry? Is this some thing someone as ham fisted as I am can fiddle with? Or should I just relax.

Re: Upgrade my Giotto- Talk Coffee...
I just took delivery of one from Chris a couple of weeks ago and am loving it. After battling the heat issues of a Pavoni for over 5 years the Giotto is just a pleasure to use (and look at) although it has definitely led to increased coffee consumption!

Nar Gracey,Originally posted by Gracey link=1180142910/60#67 date=1213268060Im also the proud owner of a pimped rocket giotto (Chris!, I havnt received the red paint and fluffy dice yet [smiley=shocked.gif].

What we have found is that the most recent of the Rockets run a little cooler out of the box and have slightly different pressurestats. We have modified our settings a tad to optimise things with them....So there are now two slightly different strategies, depending on whether its ECM Giotto Premium or Rocket Giotto....

Im also the proud owner of a pimped rocket giotto (Chris!, I havnt received the red paint and fluffy dice yet [smiley=shocked.gif]. We too make large milk drinks and so far its performance is excellent. I have no basis of comparison in fact, but I do heartily recommend it - even I can make lovely coffees. I am using a LaSpeziale Jnr grinder which Chris did think might be too small, but it too is grinding well. (I hope this is not too far off topic!)

I noticed you use the Rocky grinder is that a good match for the giotto? Kim"

I am happy with it. It is a doserless model. I have nothing to compare it to. I modified it with some plumbers tape around the top grinder plate threaded adjustment sleeve. There is no wobble. But then my Rocky has always ground consistently - that is there are no very fine grinds in the coffee cup. Rocky is stepped - some folk say they like an adjustment less that a step. I am quite happy with mine. I think it would be the minimum grinder to buy - built like a tank and will last forever!

Hi All
I think i was the reason the posts were spliced as i couldnt find the original thread where i read about the mod to the giotto.
What is the mod i read asked?
Dont know, dont care but i had the machine modded and it works a treat, way better than before more in the volume of steam but i also think its helping with consistent shots as well?? or this could be my imagination??
Certainly a great investment to a great machine.

Im sure I was reading some other info posted by talk coffee. Thread has been moved and postings deleted?

Hard to work out where to post when threads get moved!!
You should have a thread where newbies can post and ask questions.

The thread you were positng in was spliced to this thread in the interests of keeping things neat and to avoid reinventing the wheel...You will also find a whole heap more information on your area of interest here as well...
No posts were harmed in the moving of the thread and youll also notice that there is a pathway which sent you here.

Re: Giotto modiification / upgrade
Possibly time for me to chime in here....
The Giotto is great out of the box. Because they sell so well, it was a good candidtate fo a little R & D to see if improvements could be made.
The punchline is that after 12 months of testing and experimentation, improvements can be made and we do
. These mods are not for everyone- perhaps a little like "chipping" a car. More care is required- especially in the use of filtered, softened water. The machine is manufatured to suit Joe Average, but many CSers dont really fit that mould.
As for grinder, the Rocky can do the job, but as is written many times in other threads, you can and should do a whole heap better. If $$$ need to be saved, Id recommend a better grinder and cheaper machine.
We have a special on upgraded Giotto when purchased with a grinder this month. More details can be found <<<<<<<<<< over yonder in our sponsor area.

Seems strange that the manf dont seem to add these in.
Not really most Manf produce their goods on an assembly line. The idea is to get the end product as good a quality and as cheap as possible so it can compete with its like. Once the assembly line has to stop or slow and become more skilled labour intensive the cost sky rockets. Not every one wants a tuned up product. (e.g. cars) The option is to take a high quality average product (e.g giotto rocket) and tune it for those who are seeking perfection. Hence the user pays.
I am very please I had the oportunity to have mine pimped at purchese. Spot on temp and heaps of steam - every time.
