    Rotary pumps are quieter, but much more expensive than vibe pumps. Rotaries usually need to be plumbed in, as they are designed to have some water pressure at their inlet.

    As far as taste in the cup though, no significant difference. (Ken Fox and Jim Schulman did an extensive comparison test on this a few years ago between 2 identically set up Cimbali Juniors, one with vibe pump, one with rotary - refer http://groups.google.com/group/alt.coffee/browse_thread/thread/8dac1a7ebe06b39c/54f1351634636e8e for details)
