At present, there are a couple of Aust spec. prototypes only.
And were on display at CafeBiz. Typical Vibiemme solid construction and a compact good-looking machine, but I didnt have time to give it a go.

        Re: Vibiemme Domobar Junior?

Im also considering a Tanked Domobar Junior HX - (after starting out with a $500 budget, 3 months ago... before I found CS!!)

Most sites advertise the specs as; 1.45L 1600w boiler, 22.5cmx35cmx40cm.
        A few overseas 120v versions have a 1.0L boiler.

But the site (NZ) that Senator refers to is selling a version with a 1.8L 1600w boiler. Its 22x41x40cm. Wierdly, it costs $NZ500 less than the typical one (and $NZ1000 less than the Super). Apart from this, it looks the same.

Before I order it, can anyone tell me if it could be an older model??(It would be annoying to find out it uses cheaper parts, like thermostat or boiler)

        Thanks a lot!

          Hi all,

Did anyone get to pull any shots on a Junior at Aroma fest?  If so, how does it compare to the Super Lever or the rest of the class?  Have they released a production version in Australia yet?

Im in the market for a HX machine and my heart says get the Super Lever, but my head says consider the Junior - as it will actually fit easily on my kitchen bench.

          Cheers,

          Nick

            Hi Nick,

I used the pre-production model yesterday at Aromafest. As far as I recall the only two people to use the machine were myself and Sal from ECA.

Keeping in mind that there will be changes to the final retail units to improve them further, I was impressed.

The steam performance and recovery is very good and the machine was set at a suitable temperature. I found that a cooling flush was minimal or not required at all.

With the coffee we used most of the day (Paul Bassett), I found that I was cutting shots at circa 25ml and I expect that this will be likley to improve with flow adjustments on the stock for retail. Quite a few CSers got to try my small batch of Rwandan Musasa through the machine and everyone seemed to like it.

Recommended retail price is probably going to be $2550 and I understand that stock is due in about a month. One thing to consider is that that spend will also buy you a VBM Domobar Super Nero (Black) at present- while sale stock lasts....

The build is excellent- typical for VBM. I think lots of potential buyers will find that this machine is more than adequate. It doesnt have the outright grunt of the DS but is a lovely machine on a far smaller footprint.

We will be adding it to our range.

            Chris

Thanks for the reply Chris. Ill be in touch to discuss machines. The July special looks like a nice deal. I need a new kitchen anyway

              Cheers,

                Re: Vibiemme Domobar Junior?

Good to know.. mine arrives today!

It will take me a bit of mucking around to get it working properly, but Ill let you guys know how it goes.

Price is NZ$2700rrp. For comparison, Rocket is $2750, and Domo Super is $3400rrp. Not sure that means a lot since street prices fluctuate and have package deals etc to consider.

One thing that may horrify me though.. I noticed some dont ship with Vibiemme laser-etched logo!!!

...Now I hope the Rocky grinder is up to the job...

                  Good stuff skelly,

It will be interesting to see how NZ spec compares with Aust spec. I know that ECA have done a heap of work with VBM to ensure that our stock will be as good as it can possibly be...

Measurements are 40dx39hx23w (including feet, but not including front tray handle or steam/water spouts).

Anyway, first impressions are: for a newbie like me to make good coffee on my FIRST try... must be pretty good! coffee is comparable to a good cafe flat white. Beginners Luck?
(Helps that the grinder was dialled in from the shop, and did a good job on the beans provided)

I cant imagine ever needing more steam power (would be messy)

& It has the logo (same as domo super)!!

Only gripe: Rattles - metal vibrates on metal. Not a big deal, but if im being fussy... Some silicon washers would have been nice!
Oh, and the feet..they slide. (Fortuantely, i need it to slide from under the cabinet so i can refill it.)

Hi Skelly, good to hear youre happy with it.Im in NZ and just ordered one.Are you in Aussie or NZ? Itll be interesting to see the different specs if any, and also would be good to know what ECA have done to the aussie machines.
The NZ ones have the 1.45l boiler, not 1.8L

                        Yeah Im in Auckland.

When you get yours, let us know if it has vibiemme logo on it (between dials), and how tall the machine is?

Ive had too many coffees since 5pm..hehehe.

I have received info that Australian spec is 1.5 (dunno about the 1.45L? :-/) boiler and 1400W elements. ECA have done lots of work on restrictors and flow rates to ensure that VBM produces a great machine for us.

My gauge is readng constant 12 bar through the (double) shot.. am thinking this is too high?

I could try coarser grind setting, but the grind *seems* okay (a small amount of clumping from the rocky), & the timing is good. Im not tamping particularly hard (maybe 8-10kg).

Sounds high....8.5-9.0 bar at the group when checked with a portafilter pressure gauge is the accepted "optimum" setting. Keep in mind that system pressure gauges on machines often read up to 1.5 bar higher than actual group pressure.

Aussie 1.5l vs NZ 1.45l boiler - you always have to beat us dont you! (except in the rugby ;D) 1.45 was the figure i finally got from the nz importer. One site here was quoting 1.8 so i asked them to check with importer and 1.45 was the final verdict. I cant see them producing 2 different boilers so close in size so it may just be different interpretations of the same boiler?
As for the pressure, heres a pic i found of the US version, bear in mind the NZ spec one may be different. If youre technically minded and dont mind playing with your new machine, the OPV (over pressure valve) looks to be to the lower right of the boiler - the brass T shaped piece with a screw in one end.Screw outwards to decrease pressure.Bear in mind i havent played with mine yet and im just going off the US pic.
