Re: Vibiemme Domobar Junior?
A quick update to this thread,
ECA has started shipping the Domobar Junior with the far superior Jaeger pressurestat which replaces the Mater of the original unit.
Without going to full commercial and given space requirements, this is amongst the very best available.

Re: Vibiemme Domobar Junior?
Hi Sammus, I will stick with the Rocky at least in the mid term and am planning to visit one of our sponsors in the next month or so to have a play with one of the new Juniors. With the CC lid, you use it as a type of plunger as it seals in the top of the hopper and as you push it down it creates a "gush" of air which in turn expels some of the ground coffee caught in the outlet chute. The canister cost around $12 from K-Mart and I now have the original hoppers lid on it with tea bags stored in it. Worth while doing.Originally posted by 01333F3F2721520 link=1238041001/47#47 date=1255989950While Im here... Ive heard about the click clack thing... how does it work? I thought it was just a different lid for it? how does it allow you to "pump a amazing amount of excess ground coffee out of the spout."?
Regards, Steve.

Re: Vibiemme Domobar Junior?
I did both, some silicone fuel tube from R/C models, and teflon tap on the bur carrier. I used some of the fuel tubing to permanently depress the lever so I have stepless adjustment, which is what I read the mod was for. I have zero wiggle in mine, and it doesnt budge in the slightlest when the grinder starts, it sounds a lot different and produces a much different grind. I think only the teflon tape was requred, I have a pretty big gap between my hopper and the metal casing, the fuel tube barely touches, and is instertable/removabe with the hopper installed. The hopper was a pain to reinstall though, with a few layers of thread tape the thread is quite tight.
I also have a Domobar Super, and althought I havent tried another grinder, I certainly have no gripes with the quality of the pair now. I think with a Rocky youre suitably equipped to get a new machine without having to fork out for a new grinder. That said, a friend mine (sink cut? havent seen him around for a while...) had the same thing as me, I think, and upgraded to a Mazzer SJ and said the difference was significant.

Re: Vibiemme Domobar Junior?
Ive done all the listed mods and also used some windscreen washer hose off a Holden Sedan for the "split hose mod" That seemed to work better than the teflon tape. No east/west movement, and to adjust it it just requires firm pressure to turn the hopper.

Is the wiggle test for clockwise/counter clockwise movement of the hopper or side to side (east/west)? Does this question actually make sense?

Re: Vibiemme Domobar Junior?
Yeah ive heard that it does next to nothing for some, lucky ones i suppose, a good test is to attempt to wiggle the hopper, and if there is any movement, do the tape mod. It made a big difference to mine, especially that sound

Re: Vibiemme Domobar Junior?
yeah i was puzzelled also.. maybe an inaccurate forum post gave me the wrong idea? :P
either way ..for static, or for vibration.. the tape mod did nothing. I guess it wasnt broken to begin with.

???Originally posted by 3129272E2E3B420 link=1238041001/40#40 date=12559010463. The "teflon tape mod" is supposed to reduce static..Im not sure it did anything for me.
I thought it tightened the burrs on the thread, effecting a more consistent grind and quietening the machine, didnt know it affected static! well there ya go! learn something everyday! ;D

Re: Vibiemme Domobar Junior?
Hey steve,
I couldnt say for certain, as I havent tried other grinders with this particular machine. I also buy a different variety of beans almost every week, so its pretty difficult to tell if i get the grinder set perfectly or not.
I think the combo would be more than adequate, unless youre very fussy about perfect coffee. The attraction of the E61 is that its very forgiving. If the grinder isnt set perfectly, the tamp pressure can be varied to compensate. Its difficult not to pull a great shot.
I imagine I would only upgrade the grinder once I start to roast my own beans...maybe when the rocky dies ...so, about 10 years from now.
More importantly, with the rocky:
1. Get the click clack lid. It seals perfectly, and allows you to pump a amazing amount of excess ground coffee out of the spout.
2. Remove the little metal stand from the front of the rocky (that the group handle sits on). Without it, you can easily crush the clumps of coffee against the spout, as they come out. It also rattles less.
3. The "teflon tape mod" is supposed to reduce static..Im not sure it did anything for me.

Re: Vibiemme Domobar Junior?
Hi skelly great to hear that you a still "stoked" with your machine. I currently have a Rocky and am seriously considering the Junior also, just have to wait for Oz stock to arrive and the chance to have a peek. Do you feel that the Rocky is up to the task or is that the focus of the "next" upgrade?

Re: Vibiemme Domobar Junior?
*bump*
just following up after a few months..
I absolutely love this machine!!
Its making fantastic coffee, is very easy & quick warm up and operate, and is still a real pleasure to use. I probably havent tested the limits of what its capable of, but has reeled out 6 or 7 lattes without breaking a sweat. It does require a small cooling flush (few seconds) if left on continuously.
It took me a month to get the perfect routine down (most the trick seems to be in the tamping)
There have been no faults, but it did require a pressure stat adjustment (as outlined above), and some routine lubrication to the lever (following a backflush) - both easy service tasks for anybody, and gave me the opportunity to see how the machine is built internally: "like a tank"
AAA+++ "would trade again"

Re: Vibiemme Domobar Junior?
sweet, i made the adustment...10.5 at the gauge during a shot now, and after a bit of practise, it has improved the coffee
pretty easy adjustment to make.. also took the opportunity to add some anti-vibration measures (in the form of silicon baking tray and insulation tape)
label does say 1800w.
