                  Thanks TG and fabcat,

                  I received a small inheritance from a much loved Aunty when she passed away so this seemed an ideal and perhaps the only opportunity that I would have to actually own such a high quality machine. I cant wipe the smile from my face ;D ;D

                    Mal, Congrats on your new toy!

                    Looks shiny and obviously has met (exceeded?) your expectations.

                    Can you explain to me/us how a genuine E61 group DOES NOT NEED long cooling flushes. This really is something that impressed me most.

                    The Bezzera will get lonely no doubt and might be on "sale" soon.

                    How do you like the vib pump compared with the rotary on the Bez?

                    Cheers,
                    John

                      Good one Mal

                      This machine is on my short list of which HX to buy when the inevitable upgrade comes about. After your review, its moved up the list. Lovely. You might have unexpected guests turning up to judge for themselves.

                      Interested to know what gave the DJE the edge over the other HXs you mentioned (GPP, VDS, BDG) which are other machines on my short list. Yeah, as you mentioned, they were subjective reasons, but would you mind sharing?

                          Re: Ive got some new toys coming...

                          Congrats Mal,

                          Combined with the M4, youll be right for good!

                          The Junior extra and the Regal are both terrific machines and should be short listed by CSers shopping in the $2.5k+ price range. As you have mentioned, they are beautifully built- both internally and externally.

                          If/when the time comes that you can get a p/f gauge onto your machine, youll most likely find it to be bang on in terms of pressure as the gauge takes a reading of system pressure at the HX. Most machines with system pressure gauges read 1-1.5 bar higher than actual group pressure.

                          Enjoy!

                                Thanks everyone,

                                I still cant wipe the smile off my face.... ;D

                                @John Yossarian...
                                To say it meets my expectations is an understatement really... Probably exceeds all of them by a significant margin 8-)

                                Re: Cooling Flushes... Its not down to the Group alone John; more that some very careful (and serious) design and engineering time has gone into this machine (and other Diadema machines too no doubt) to ensure that it, as a whole, measures up to a very high set of standards. Especially the way she can produce stunningly beautiful espresso, at the drop of a hat, so to speak.

                                The Bezzera already has a new home ;D... My eldest son is a bit of a CoffeeSnob too and has placed first dibs on its acquisition. If, for any reason, he decides (or more accurately, his lovely wife) that its not going to match the decor or otherwise deemed to be unsuitable, then I will place it up for sale here first.

                                Re: The Vibe Pump... Well, its not a big deal really. The method used by BFC to mount and connect the pump has ensured that it is not only very quiet but does not transmit any vibration throughout the rest of the machine. Also, the fit of all the panels, the Drip Tray, etc is so good that nothing rattles or hums. By the way, the Drip Tray is HUGE in volume and probably weighs close to a Kilo all by itself. Nothings going to rattle that sucker [smiley=evil.gif]

                                @flynn_aus...
                                LOL... Ive already got relos and friends coming around to check out the new hardware so expect to be busier than usual for a while ;D

                                And yes, Diadema machines definitely deserve to be on everyones new acquisition short-list, especially if Quality is more than simply a word to you.

                                Why did I choose the DJE over the other machines on my short-list? Naturally, appearance is an important criterion for something as substantial as this and for me, the Diademas understated looks and compact design pushed it ahead of the pack.

                                Another important criterion, was that the quality of fit and finish should be exemplary. I didnt want to discover, after the fact, that there were any design factors that contributed (even in a small way) to any undesirable and ongoing user "unfriendly" idiosyncrasies; such as panel-work with sharp edges, leaking fittings, maintenance unfriendliness due to poor access.
                                I also put user ergonomics and operability high up on the scale too; not something that requires vendor/technical intervention to ensure that the machine does what it was supposed to do in the first place. My DJE is just how it left the factory... And it works; beautifully.

                                Im not going to single out any other espresso machines for criticism, this wouldnt be fair, so lets just say despite looking really, really hard, I just could find no fault with the Diadema both from a subjective and engineering perspective. Having an engineering and design background myself means that I approach hardware selection with a very critical eye and nearly four decades of engineering experience.

                                Thats the intention mate and I think Im going to be very well looked after 8-)

                                Yes, I got back to Attilio about that and he said much the same thing. Im not going to touch it anyway, the brews being produced are beautiful, rich and sweet... no signs of over-extraction at all.

                                I still cant get over the espresso flavour differences between my new Diadema and the Bezzera. The flavour profile produced when using identical coffee is very different between the two. Shots from the Bezz arent bad by any stretch of the imagination, just different and not quite as sweet. Perhaps this is something to do with the implementation of the E-61 Group? I dont know really.... Very interesting though :-?

                                Anyway everyone, thanks again for your well wishes and Im glad that the review may have been helpful to some of you. All the best... Im going back to make another espresso 8-)
