See?Now you know why I suggested it would be better to get a pet!Grin
Does anyone know the insulation coefficients of cat hair? (gee, I love these big words) :
Depends. Did you want that for a short hair, long hair, dominant white, spotted, orange, black, brown, bicolour, tortoise shell, tabby, maltese, siamese or burmese? ;D

    AM, you forgot this:

I appreciate your interests in Electrical safety..

If any thing, your posts has demonstrated that some are more aware and may consider the issue. If so... Then we have moved forward..

    Assumptions can kill

PS. Just got notice.. Have to sit my technical and risk management subjects to renew my licence... Looks like a job for Monday morning...

If only I was an engineer, I could just claim higher education and never sit the tests... The fact that rules have changed and not worked on teh bench for 30 year; has what to do with it ;D

PS. Mal how is the water out your way ?

While the boiler may be brass or other metal around the separation has been considered..

Id be a bit worried with all of that Al Foil in such close proximity to a lot of live electrical connections... Hope all of the connections are well (electrically)insulated....

    Ditto.....

Yea.. While the boiler may be brass or other metal around the separation has been considered..

In addition; if that is a fibre glass type..

Then, I do not want to ever have to work on it... Over time the heat will cause teh fibres to degrade and then it will be a pain.

PS. Fibreglass wool etc as an insulator is also heading down teh same road as other insulating materials.. Use with caution.

Interesting Pauly, No. 1 would indicate to me that the insulation isnt "really" doing its job......but No. 2 confirms its doing a stirling job!

    Well done!

Ill look at doing this when the warranty runs out

ps what insulation material did you use?

    cheers
    warren

Re: Anyones Giotto & other HX Modifications

For anyone interested in changes after boiler insulation here are my findings:

    1. Any changes to cup warming are negligible. They still get very warm within 30 minutes of start-up.
    2. Cycle time increased from 60 seconds to 80 seconds.
    3. I expect temperature in the water reservoir will still get high if the machine is left on for a long period of time.

    Here is a photo:

I have now insulated my boiler and there is a slight decrease in cycle time. I expect the water in the tank will also stay a little cooler.
