  • Office machine for 12 people. 2-3k

Long time reader, first time poster

I have a silvia/rocky combo at home which is great. Im now on the hunt for a decent office setup.

Key factors in order of priority.
    - ease of use. A manual machine is fine, but the easier to use the better.
    - brew quality
    - price under 3k

    Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

Hi kilo and welcome to CS  8-),

Office coffee can be a real dilemma unless you have an office of like-minded individuals who are willing to carry their load. Think filthy steam wands, dirty jugs, a machine which never gets cleaned and nobody is responsible. Its the reason that many offices end up with superautos like Jura and similar. Sadly, the output from the superautos tends to be average at best and some brands can be unreliable and very expensive to maintain...

Given all of these limitations and your budget, its probably best to look at a suitable heat exchanger machine with volumetric touch pad and a timed doserless grinder. This will give those who dont care that much a good result and the CSers amongst you will be able to get great results with a bit of extra care. Ultimately the task needs to be as quick and easy as possible: the office staff are paid to do their jobs, not make coffee!

Assuming that you are looking for a $3k package, Id suggest something like:

Expobar Office Fully Auto (FA) or similar + Compak K3T grinder or similar. This will bring you in well under budget. If you can plumb in, you will go very close to a LaSpaziale Vivaldi and the grinder. The LaSpaziale is a very robust 1 group commercial machine. Please note that the Expobar FA runs very hot out of the box and requires tweaking to get the best from it. We can turn it into a kitty kat

Should there be $3k to spend on a machine and additional funds for a grinder, you have a few more options.

As your machine will probably need more frequent service than one in a home, best bet will be to choose a sponsor close to work who can support you and your machinery- and perhaps set you up with some great coffee as well...

<<<<< Over yonder, you will find a list of sponsors and also the means to email all of us for suggestions.

You are most welcome to call for a chat and some advice, regardless of whether Talk Coffee is a good fit or not...

      Good luck in your search....

Thanks for the responses so far guys.

          - We are based in North Melbourne.
          - Id like the 3k to cover the machine and the grinder if possible
          - Plumbing is not an option currently, but may be in 6 months time (moving office)

What is a volumetric touch pad and the benefits?

            Hi Kilo,

A touchpad allows you to set a single and double shot whcih can be accessed at the press of a button. See http://www.talkcoffee.com.au/equipment/coffee-machine-expobar-semiauto.php vs http://www.talkcoffee.com.au/equipment/coffee-machine-expobar-volumetric.php

We are in Northcote, so you are not too far away!

              Thanks Talk Coffee.

The Compak K3T grinder sounds like good value.
Is this an easy grinder to use in an office environment or is there something easier? I guess the more automatic the better

A Mazzer Mini Electric for the grinder may be an option within your price range. Slightly on the slow side, but it takes the user out of the equation somewhat.

A Mini Mazzer Electronica will be nice, however you will go over the budget. Her is suggestion for you, we install a few of then for office market. We like this one because they are very simple to use and there is not an uncover group head, you know in case someone burn there self.

                      Welcome kilo!

The Diadema Junior Plus, in either semi automatic (like picture) or lever model, would be ideal.

Mate it to a nice Macap M4 or Mazzer Mini in painted body (rather than chrome / polished aluminium at extra cost) ) and you should get out of it for close to the top end of your budget.
