  • HELP! Machine went up in smoke ( Maver Marte)

    Hi all!
My trusted and favourite Maver Marte got burnt today ;-( Literally went up in smoke! And I think I saw a bit of flame too. I think it could be that some water sipped through inside and its only my fault.
I turned the power off quickly and took in apart. I quickly found the source of fire and smoke, but to be honest I have no idea what this part is.
The machine is not under warranty anymore. Could someone perhaps tell me straight away what XP700 is and how/where to replace it and how much it may cost. I live in Melbourne.
Attached photos show where the part is
I will be so grateful if someone could help with the problem.
I know that I should probably call Veneziano as they surely know this machine... any ideas?

    Cheers
    Ed

    Hi Ed,

Not the end of the world...

The nuked part is the pressurestat and the best bloke to talk to will be Craig of 9bar Espresso services (<<<<<site sponsor)..

Unless something else is cooked, its a 15 minute job and pressurestats are not that expensive...

          I feel for your loss...

However, if its not repairable, bags first dibs on the group handles, water tank, control board, etc! ;D (Only joking, I need as many Maver Compadres out there as I can get!)

Please let me know how you go and if Craig says what may have caused it so I can avoid it myself.

          Cheers
          Di

Excellent, thanks Chartres - did Craig give you a diagnosis at all of what caused the fire?

              Cheers

I am pretty sure it was the element relay Di.

On the Maver, some Diademas and Bezzeras, its located on the pressurestat and encounters pretty high load being switched frequently. Fortunately, pressurestats are relatively inexpensive and easy to replace.

They can go bang, often with a spark and associated carbon when they die but a fire is   .

Ill be keen to hear Craigs diagosis as well.

                Chris

well, I saw some flames through these little gaps in the panels, but I didnt say it was "a fire" as such. It was more like a sizeable match was burning inside. After the pressurestat was replaced everything seems to be ok, or almost everything.
My pressure gauge for boiler pressure wasnt working before I think and it is still not working ;-)
But now another gauge (brew pressure) is giving strange readings together with pump going silent when brewing, at times(more than 11 bar, but I dont trust the gauge now as coffee doesnt seem overextracted ) and I want to pay Graig another quick visit to check whats up. Its not related to the initial fault I think.

                    Hi Guys,

Spot on with the diagnosis Chris.

Its just poorly designed not really much you can do to avoid it! Thanks for all the support guys.
