  • Rancilio S24 spurting around group head

    Hi all

Our machine has recently started leaking, with water trickling down the outside of the group handle. Thinking it was the group seal that was gone we replaced that this morning. Sadly, the problem is just as bad if not worse. Any ideas on what might be wrong and any solutions?

    Cheers

leaky pipe / bolt / something somewhere on the grouphead?

can you swap baskets and see what happens?

      Thanks Leeham-

I tried a different basket and things seem to be getting worse. Water now spurts from all around the group head. On this machine the head itself is pretty well hidden behind a casing that I dont know how to remove, so I cant tell if its a hose or nut or something - although the symptoms would be consistent with that.

Ugly thought but a crack in the group head ? Also without checking the exploded views I have for the S24 (at home) if is is a solonoid group might be the leaking from around that area. http://www.coffeeparts.com/rancilio/...e-parts-4.html

That expladed view will be similar I think as it is a commercial group as well. Phonecall to Coffee Parts might be a good idea too

Usually you have to pay extra for that!

          *Boom tish*

          Aaanyway...  :

I had a similar thing start to happen with my Silvia about 12 months ago. Was definitely the group seal for me, and replacing it fixed the leak. Nearest I can tell the group design on the Silvia is similar to the S24 (someone might like to correct me here)

If replacing the seal hasnt for fixed it you, maybe try adding a group head spacer under the seal as well?

Theres a lot of brass in those group heads, and whilst I can imagine it would be possible to crack them somewhere, unless theres an inherent design fault, I wouldnt have thought it likely without some sort of serious abuse.

Just my thoughts. Good luck mate. Let us know if you make any progress

          Caff.

Thanks to all who responded to this request for help, plus Reubstar (in another thread) and Pedro from Coffeeparts.

Having used a screwdriver to clean out the socket that the gh seal slots into, and placed a spacer above the seal, I have just pulled a beautiful syrupy ristretto with no leaks.

            Thanks again
