After attempting another descale of my VBM, I decided that I should let Renzo (Di Bartoli) fiddle with it, and it needed a service anyway, as it is 18 months old now.
Before the service, when pulling a shot, the brew pressure gauge would start at around 2 bar, then stay there for about 4 or 5 seconds (pre-infusion, i presume), then build progressively to around 10 bar where it topped out, and at that point the pour would start to appear. The gauge held steady at 10 bar through to the end of the shot. This seemed normal to me.
After getting it home this afternoon and letting it warm up, I pulled a couple of test shots on the serviced machine. Upon pulling the lever, the brew pressure gauge jumped immediately to around 8 bar, rising to 10 bar after around 8 seconds and holding for the rest of the shot, but it is wavering slightly, perhaps between 9.8 and 10.2 bar. The pour appears relatively normal, perhaps a bit thinner than it was before the service.
The gauge shoots immediately to around 8 bar even if I pull the lever with no PF on the group to flush, which it never did before. Im concerned that there is something not right with the brew pressure or OPV.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Mark
