Re: Have I Wrecked my ECM Giotto - Help

While they are rare as hens teeth in Australia for some bizarre reason - left hand drill bits are unbelievably good at getting the fastener out.

The LH action plus the vibration and heat from the drill causes the fastener to come out while being drilled most of the time.  Avoids the same relationship I have with easy outs that AM has

I just dont understand why these things cost $change in the US, but are seriously expensive over here!

    /Kevin

Another vote for the "ezy out" from me. Years of repairing motorcycles means that I always have a few kicking around.

    FYI they look like...

I once had and ezy-out breakoff inside the drilled bolt... shudder... it then took hours to repair because of the hardness of the ezy-out.

Pity they dont make an ezy-out-ezy-out

If you are not comfortable doing this yourself then professional help is certainly best.

9Bar will do it easily... its the sort of thing that they come across all the time in the repair game. Give em a hollar on Monday and Im sure they will be able to help.

    8-)

I would think that any fitter & turner or machine shop could do it.
Ya ... Just make sure they are into fine work and not mining gear :-)

Thank you all. I think I will get someone with more experience than me to do it. The scew is very fine and I dont want to make a bigger mess of it than what has already been done.

I called Chris today - he also felt that getting the tiny screw out was out of his area of comfort.

I tried to call 9Bar but as it was Saturday they were closed. I will try to call them on monday.

If 9Bar can not do it does anyone know someone in Melbourne to do this sort of fiddly job.

    Thank you
    cNc

They boys at 9Bar would be another option.
Couple of excellent service and switched on people there and access to all the tools is a big plus...

Mate AM has the right ideas as usual, an easy out or cutting a slot for a screwdriver sound like great ideas but if you are in any doubt at all about having a go at it then give Chris a Talk Coffee a call for help seeing as you are in Melbourne. They boys at 9Bar would be another option.

I would be thinking, drill it out and re tap it, but then again I am not a professional and this could ruin it, and I would only do that as a last measure.

Have I Wrecked my ECM Giotto - Help

I have just replaced a faulty safety valve on my ECM Giotto. The safety valve was very tight and in trying to loosten it, the wrench slipped and broke of the thermostat. Normally the thermostat screws into the boiler but the section that is screwed into the hole in the boiler has broken off, thus filling the hole. Therefore I can not just replace the thermostat as there is no longer place to screw it in. I have attached a picture. Can anyone help? Does anyone have any suggestions? What can I do?
