    Re: Nuova Simonelli Musica

Nice looking pic. I admire NS for offering something a little fresh looking compared to other domestic HX options on the market. There are a lot of similar-ish looking machines out there, especially the E61 lever machines, which I guess is inevitable when they all share the same 9lb clump of chromed brass.

Maybe it won’t be popular amongst the snobs, but in reality we are just one niche of the market.

        Re: Nuova Simonelli Musica

I have had one for a month.  Very easy to make excellent coffee, however I have had some issues.  The heating element that was fitted to mine had a copper clip (according to the mechanic) over the element and as it heated and cooled it rubbed a hole though and  shorted out the element.  He stated that the replacement did not have this clip.  I got it back and no issues for a week and a half - now tonight the lights are on but the boiler will not build up pressure.

I will have it back to the mechanic tomorrow - all on warranty.  I purchased from a sponsor and they have been helpful in organising the service as I am some distance from them.

As I stated for a HX machine I have found it very easy to use.  I previously had an EM6910 and only had to fine down the grind a little and was getting coffee to die for.  I have even had a couple of espresso shots from it as they are quite palatable even to me, as I normally drink double shot Lattes. The factory settings were just fine in my opinion and I do not believe it needs any adjustment as it is capable of producing coffee better than any shop I have bought espresso from and certainly better than what I got from the Sunbeam.

I will wait until I get it back from the mechanic after this latest issue - the Sponsor has stated they will make sure that the service people go right over it.  As I stated whilst I have had these issues, the machine was probably made on a Monday.  Hopefully once they fix it, this time it will go forever.  I would still recommend it to others and I think having bought from a Sponsor they have been supportive throughout the ordeal.  Just means I will not have any coffee for a couple of days except for Plunger coffee.

Groover - I have got my Musica back it turns out that a fusible link blew the mechanic said that it was probably damaged when the element shorted and worked for a little time and then gave up. I will wait and see. At this stage (two cups) it is working better than new so I will see how it goes.

It still makes excellent coffee and seems to have more steam pressure than when I first got it.

If youd have let the Sunbeam warm up for 20 minutes the coffee would have tasted better.

The steam wand on mine is easier to move than the hot water wand but I wouldnt say it was loose.

                              Hey Guys
Just one more question. When I got the machine I was making perfect milk micro foam for my cappuccinos. NOW for some silly reason I cant quite get it right.
Do you guys use full cream milk or skimmed milk ? Do you tilt the milk jug so you get a swirling effect and is the nozzle of the steaming wand just under the surface of the milk when you start heating ?
Yeah I know it was more than one question !

Had the same problem.  I find that I need to keep the milk jug level .  My wife however has never had a problem.  I also found that I had to have the steam head a lower in the milk that the Sunbeam other wise I made foam that was nearly solid. By the way since the last repair in December it has been making nearly a dozen cups a day and has worked perfectly. (We had visitors that have stayed and stayed and stayed, mainly due to the floods in Rocky.)
