Re: machine with character...
Not wanting to pick a fight with you Atillio you are quite correct to say they need parts on a regular basis (every year or so) but compared to the potential cost of a Boiler fill or Pump Boards etc off a Pumped machine that is still very cheap. For the end user service with a few simple tools at home is acheivable instead of a trip back to the shop to diagnose/repair in the case of some problems with the more complicated HX etc machines.Originally posted by 0F3B2C3A21160A262F2F2C2C490 link=1285478838/4#4 date=1285491305(or they might) and certainly will be more expensive to service over time.
While I am at it also look at the PV Lusso from Sorrentina http://sorrentinacoffee.myshopify.co...classic-design in the mix of Lever machines.

Hi Diva, Welcome to the forum. Dont be put off by purely subjective opinions about what "bling" is. Or that "bling" necessarily equates with mediocre coffee making. The Elektra will give you as good a coffee as you will get from any machine - many would say better.
However, the learning curve with these lever machines can be steep and frustrating. Even more so with the delightful but fractious little La Pavoni.
What ever you decide, enjoy the journey!

Re: machine with character...
Welcome to CS.
In todays espresso conscious market coffee machines are a very individual thing and that means there are a multitude of differing opinions some of which are very valid.
My opinion: you either want a great coffee machine, or you want an ornament that makes coffee. The choice is yours to make in the best possible way to suit your own personal requirements. Some of the very best coffee machines "unfortunately" are stainless steel boxes.... but they make great "commercial quality" coffee, are well built and designed and will give you years of satisfaction with a minimum of service required. You should note, that by virtue of their design and build, ornaments that make coffee may not be as reliable (or they might) and certainly will be more expensive to service over time. They may be much more "finicky" to operate and there is always some compromise that you wouldnt have to deal with if you instead bought a stainless steel box, but that might not bother you as an individual. For example if you entertain a lot, the two machines pictured above have a finite water capacity after which you have to depressurise and start again so their "capacity to entertain" is smaller and slower than for "regular" machines. They are lighter and smaller and therefore ergonomically more finicky to use. They also make a different "quality" of brew. Go into these things with your eyes open, and in the end do whatever "floats your boat" and be happy with your decision
Here endeth my learned opinion.
The one way in which we all seem to agree here, is you should contact one of the sponsors closest to you so that you can visit and touch tangible examples of your next possible great coffee machine.
Regardz,
Attilio

Re: machine with character...
Welcome to the gang
Depending on where you are in Melbourne a visit to Talk Coffee is in order and if you want to see the Elektra in the flesh then I think Di Bella in Nth Melbourne had them on the shelf both are site sponsors and will help you along the path. Also you will need to factor in a grinder to your budget, not sure if you are aware but preground wont cut it with an espresso machine.
On the Elektra you are paying A LOT for looks and style over what they are worth but if it is the look then price is mirtigated a bit. If you like the idea of the lever then look at the Pavoni range as well.
As above 25-30+ seconds is a "normal" pour time, one of the nice things with the Pavoni is the quicker heat up time over some others 13-14 minutes over 25ish for others so the coffee is made and drunk before some of the others are ready in the morning.
Pavoni for comparison

Hi bcd,
Id recommend that functionality and specification need to be taken into consideration as well. :-?
The drink is probably more important than bling. I feel that youd be paying a whole heap for looks...Regardless of what you buy and from whom, do have a demo or six on a variety of machines around your target price and see what they can put in the cup...

Um the trickle is actually what you are after, and it only takes 30 odd secs for the extraction to occur so if that takes too long then you will need to contact nestle for their nearest stockist of blend 43.
Seriously though contact chris at talk coffee or 9bar espresso services or any of the other Melb based sponsors to talk about your requirements. They can steer you in the right direction as to a machine that will suit your requirements.
Welcome to CS.
Cheers

machine with character...
HI
We are after a machine in the pointy end price bracket.
We liked the look of the lever operated elektra (we like the eagle), but we note that the lever operated Elektra just slowly trickles out the coffee. Thats too slow for our obligatory morning fast coffee fix.
Does anyone have any suggestions incl where to buy? We are in Melbourne
Thanks
