  • Giotto Premium - New Larger drip tray project

I have been the proud owner of a Giotto Premium for about 2-3 years now and the only fault that I can really find with the machine is that the drip tray is too short...

When I rinse the pf out, I end up with a watery coffee grind filled mess all over the bench as the drip tray barely extends past the e61 group :-[

So - I have started to investigate having a replica replacement drip tray that is 50mm deeper to be 200mm deep (up from 150mm). This would give the depth I need to keep the bench clean and give the Giotto a little more drip tray volume.

I have drawn plans and it requires 4 distinct parts; New larger base, drip tray insert spot welded to a mirror finish SS wrap to match the machine and then the drip tray top / cover.  8-)

Problem... local manufacturers are wanting about $400-500 to produce a single lot of the above. :-?
I am temped to try abroad, but would much prefer to support local small business. Is anyone else interested in this Mod to your Giotto if I can get the price down?

    Wow...Thats big bucks CoffeeHead ,

I just drape a cloth over the end of the drip tray and it catches anything which would have been missed.

$400-500 will buy one hell of a lot of coffee.  :-?

To overcome the small drip tray issue I use a low profile stainless steel tray to collect excess water when brewing and cleaning.
I bought a couple of these to also hold the equipment that would otherwise lie around the bench. They were about $2 each.

To overcome the small drip tray problem, I use a plastic container which I place under the grouphead while flushing or brushing the grouphead between shots. I only need to empty the drip tray every 2 - 3 days except when doing a chemical backflush of course.

The plastic container is the one that Mae Ploy brand Thai curry paste is bought in (the larger size).

            As noted above
Use a bowl when flushing ect

This method also keeps you machine 99% splash free which in turn keeps your machine shiny

Pretty well what Ive been using for many years, regardless of the machine Ive owned at the time. I like to keep my machines Clean.... 8-)

                      Here is my mod.
                      It was a s/s pizza cutter $9.95.
Cut down with an angle grinder then smoothed off with sand paper. Rivitted on so can remove easily.

Added about 50mm to the length and works a treat.

I am on the lookout for a more suitable s/s polished tray type shape. Will post pics when I find.

Dont know why they just did not just make the tray 2" longer and 1" deeper.
