Re: Help with machine purchase in SA

I have much more experience with coffee and coffee machines than I do with women, that said I find, that if you do things for your woman that she really appreciates, she will return it in spades for you ;D

So, your wife bringing your cuppa upstairs to you is entirely within your control

I am getting a bit fed up with waiting 1 hour in the morning for the machine to warm up
30 minutes is the most I wait for my morning espresso...and its not really waiting since my wife usually gets up first and she switches my machine on for me while I sleep another 20 minutes ;D

should only take 5 minutes from switching on for the water in the boiler to be at temp (or at least for my Boiler Gauge to show 1.2 bars), then another 25 minutes for everything else to warm up.  I do a flush through my portafilter and into the cup to warm them up and to stabilise the heat through the group head, wipe the portafilter, grind, dose and pull the shot.
If Im really desperate I have pulled shots waiting only 15 minutes...I dont recommend it...but thats when my wife sleeps in and Im extremely late...I dont do a cooling flush then ;D
HA , i really need to train my wife to go down stairs first and turn on the machine while i sleep for another 30 mins ;D heres a thought ,maybe she could learn how to make the coffee and bring me one back up stairs for when i wake up ;D :

Dont wait an hour thats nothing more than overkill.

Turn it on soon as you roll out of bed. After youve attended to whatever you do when you get out of bed, usually atleast 20 minutes in my home, the machine will be ready enough.....

Put you hand on the group. If you can leave it there its not hot enough. Flush water through the group and you will see (feel) the thing heat up fairly quickly at that point.. Have the group handle attached and cups under that, so everything heats up at the same time without wasting water.

Do this again a few times over the next five minutes and the machine will be ready. When you place your hand on the group, if you have to remove it quickly or burn yourself, youre good to go....nothwithstanding that everyone has a different tolerance to heat.

While a great many people use timers, one day.....the use if it will cause an expensive breakdown so I dont recommend them.

I am getting a bit fed up with waiting 1 hour in the morning for the machine to warm up ,how many people use a timer plugged into the power outlet ??
    I do.
I have a programmable timer that can do multiple settings.
The sort I use is available on the bay - item 180865100815

I use about 4 different settings for various morning/evening and weekend timings.

You did the right thing with the grinder.  My grinder has taken quite some time to bed in.  Until it bedded in there was quite a lot of clumping.

(I am trying to be objective but - I want an Evo too )
GO for it , its a great machine

    Hi luckyphil.
A great combo, and I look forward to hearing about your great shots too.  The search may be long but no doubt worthwhile. 8-)
Well I got my machines home , put 2 kilos of beans through the grinder to season and set up the dose , it sure makes nice coffee and looks good too
