Time for an upgrade from V2 Silvia. Wanting to upgrade to a HX machine. Am interested in the ECM Barista seems to be well priced and with a new grinder should come in within budget. There seems to be many positive comments re other ECM machines but could not find too much re this machine. Would be interested to here from any users or sponsors concerning the pros and cons of this machine. I intend to visit some sponsors to view and use machine and prob some others. This will probably make up my mind, but always good to here from some owners. Love to here some comments!
    Thanks

    Hi Cicarda,

Comparing the ECM Barista to the ECM Technika Profi:
    The Barista:
    * does not have quick steam/water valves
    * has a simpler body (eg cup warmer tray comes off to expose water tank rather than having a flip open lid for the water tank)
    * standard E61 group head rather than modified ECM E61 group head
    * standard portafilters (rather than chrome handled portafilters)
    * does not have user accessible OPV for simple brew pressure adjustment.

Other than that, they are the same.

      Thanks Charlie
Could you explain the differences between a standard and modified E61 group head. Are there changes to pre infusion or is it mainly about temp
I have read up about the E61 but not sure on modifications.
Also the OPV, I'm assuming it can be adjusted for brew pressure but needs a technician to do so ???
      Thanks

The ECM E61 group head uses a stainless steel mushroom. There's no difference to pre-infusion. It is to avoid the issue with chrome coming off the mushroom if you get scale on it. Use the right water filter and this shouldn't be a huge concern. The OPV can be adjusted, it's just that in the Barista it is an internal thing, while on the Technika the screw is on top and accessible.

Just thought I would bump this thread! Are there any owners of this machine who could offer a comment on ease of use, reliability, steaming ability etc.
Any comments would be appreciated. There appears to be plenty of EOFYS at the moment so will have to get my act together and grab a bargain.
          Thanks

I'm also keen to hear about this machine. Perhaps there aren't many owners of the ECM Barista out there? Wonder why given the price is pretty reasonable for the given feature set.

ECM in general seems to have been overlooked somewhat.

Bump to see any feedback from Barista owners ... Possibly the are more technika owners as it is an incremental increase from the Barista...

Another bump to the thread - looks like there aren't many CS members with the ECM Barista. I'm seriously now considering the ECM Barista over the Rocket Giotto PP v2.

Has as anyone got any feedback on the use/problems with the ECM Barista?

                    cheers

When I did research the ECM Barista was one of the machines I would have been happy to buy.

That’s one great machine within it’s range which I feel is underrated.

Besides all the goodies internally, is there any other vibrating machine that’s as quiet as the Profitec 500?
All in all it’s amazingly built. Definitely look into that rather than the ECM Barista.

If branding is a concern for you then I’ll make this easy; ECM and Profitec are sister companies. Same Same but Different.

+1 for the Profitec Pro 500, but I guess I'm showing my bias as an owner
I'm also a fan of the ECM brand, but the Barista is probably the one ECM I haven't had a good look at.

                            Cheers

                              Brewster/Mal,

Being the owner of a particular machine doesn't necessarily mean you have a skewed bias. Everyone's got an opinion on something one way or another, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with expressing it. Why have a forum otherwise?

Even before you owned the Pro 500, I'm assuming you performed the required research that led you to form the opinion in the first place. If that qualifies as "bias", then at least it's been backed up by some form of due diligence.
