  • Lelit Pl60t V2 thoughts and reviews

    Hi Everyone,

I've been researching a new coffee machine for awhile. i've previously had a ES800 with a breville grinder. Using fresh beans and an unpressurised krups basket.

The machine has lasted around 7 years, but is now leaking water when the pump runs, the plastic tubing has cracked at the join.

Anyway, time for a new machine, I have been waiting for the new BES920 to arrive and try in person, However in the meantime I'm leaning towards the Lelit pl60 V2 and the associated grinder the PL043.

I make 1 to 2 coffee's a day (Flat whites) sometimes more on week ends.

I could be even be tempted to go with the single boiler option as time isn't really a factor, I'm just trying to get a reasonable coffee (to my taste.)

I have several statement i'm seeking a conversation on.

The lelit pl60 v2 has a good spec sheet, almost too good for the price point. I don't think that there are any other european dual boiler machines with PID control for around $1700.

The grinder also looks good on paper. $299 does seem a little on the low side comparing it to other popular models around.

Lelit as a brand doesn't seem to have a large presence on the internet, I'm based in Brisbane, Nelli Coffee seem to be the only stockist.

I'd be interested to find where the Lelit would be sent for repairs under warranty if bought locally. (Anybody with a Pl60 machine requiring repairs under warranty?)

Any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers Dave

Hi Dave, My husband and I bought a Lelit Pl60t V2 about a year ago and absolutely love it. Like yourself, we drink 1–2 coffees per day and this machine makes consistently good coffees (they are just perfect!). It warms up quickly and is easy to use. The only negative point is the size of the water reservoir. It states that it holds 3.5 litres of water but when 2/3 empty it needs to be topped up (a red light and alarm indicate that it needs a top-up and you cannot make another coffee until you have added water—the machine locks itself). We bought ours from: Lelit PL60T V2 Dual Boiler Maybe call them to ask for where the machine is send for repairs. Best, Wendy

      Hi Dave,

Neli have in house service so they can look after your PL60T during warranty and afterwards.

I bought one from JetBlack a couple of months ago and it's an awesome machine.
It was an upgrade from an EM6910.

here's a few dot points from me.
-Noise. What noise? The thing is extremely quiet, the boiler refill pump is louder than the pressure pump, which is in stark contrast to the old Sunbeam

-Heat up time. It's more than happy to make great coffee's after only 5-6 minutes. you know it's up to temp, the PID display tells you so
I usually allow it to heat up a little longer. i.e turn it on when i first wake up, have a shower, get dressed, feed the dogs, make coffee. And i just flick it on as soon as I get home from work.

-Coffee quality. Outstanding. The machine is also very tolerant of over dosing and over tamping because of it's 9Bar OPV.
you can't over-pressurise the coffee and i've had perfectly acceptible pours out to 45 seconds for 2x30 ml shots where i've mis-adjusted the grinder.

-Steam power. HUGE amounts of steam. for 400ml of milk here's my process
I start my coffee pour, then purge the steam wand, stretch the milk and then sit it on the tray to whirlpool by itself.
after 30 secs my shots are done. I bang out the PF, wash it off under the shower-head, go back to the jug and another 5-10 secs and it's done..

Build quality is brilliant. Switches are heavy and sturdy
I've had the top off to do a little mod to the machine as it wasn't pouring two shots evenly into two glasses. And all the innards are exceptionally well put together.
(machine I bought was discounted heavily due to some scratches and mis-alignment issue. had possibly had some knocks in transit, but nothing a small shim didin't fix.)

And the thing is just great to look at.
        Very happy

I bought my PL60 from Chris at Talk Coffee about 12 kgs ago. So far I am very happy with it and it will hopefully hold off upgraditis temptations for some time to come.
One thing that I have noticed is the steam boiler needs to be primed by ejecting whatever water is in the outlet and waiting until the pressure builds again to 3 bar. This is needed regardless of how long the unit is on. I have no idea if this is normal operation for all dual boilers though and it is not an annoyance, just part of the ritual.

Ahh, yes, had forgotten about that.
I just do it out of instinct now

It's also worth noting if you're a black only drinker you can turn off the steam boiler independently too.

I just had my PL60 arrive...love it already.

The manual says to turn on the hot water tap before turning on the steam boiler. Is that what you are talking about above? What happens if you forget?

It does too. I'll try that and see if it makes a difference.

Nothing changed using that technique for me. The steam boiler heats quickly and shows around 4 bar pressure. When the switch is thrown about 5ml of water is ejected first then some steam and the pressure drops quickly to 1 bar and then falls off slowly. Once switched off the pressure build fairly quickly to around 2.5 bar and the element heats for about a minute and is ready to go. Now the steam is dryer however I find a second dump and letting it reheat and pressurise is the best way to get dry steam from the Lelit.

I think the steam boiler doesn't have an anti-vac valve, which means that you have to bleed off the false pressure first. (Which is what you're doing already)

Sounds like a reasonable explanation. Still, not much of an issue and for me its part of the ritual when praying to the Lelit.

Thanks guys. Managed to see what you mean with the steam switch. It was literally a 2 second flick and maybe 10 seconds to get back up to pressure while I am doing other things. Seems totally unrelated to the hot water tap thingo.

Yeah the hot water tap should feed from the main boiler for the group head.
I get pretty good coffee most of the time, it's not overly finicky and seems quite consistent.
I do seem to have damaged the main seal though as I am getting quite a bit of water and pressure released at the back of the group head unless I insert the portafilter with quite a bit more force than should be required. It feels smooth to the touch and I can't see any tearing or distortion though.

                              First post here...
After months of research and procrastination i bought this machine on Saturday from talk coffee and so far am amazed by the improvement over my previous machine (sunbeam 6910- which timely blew up Saturday morning after a long tour of duty)

The machine ticked all the boxes for me- steam ability along with the ability to produce a really nice shot of coffee. Really easy to use and very quiet ( which is good with a new born in the house and getting up for work at 4 am.)

also... The machine looks much better in the flesh than the pictures on various websites.. So don't be put off.. I guess the best bit was the price was right.. It was a
title more than originally budgeted, but 5 days later I am so glad I spent the extra $$, which is still much cheaper than most dual boilers.

I would also like to thank Chris for his patience with my many questions and down to earth advice on each machine we talked about.

Still in the honeymoon period and I find my self rushing home to get another coffee at lunchtime- which is so much better than what local cafés in the area I work can produce..

also now required each morning to bring an extra coffee in for my work offsider!

Currently grinding with a breville smart grinder- low end of grinders I know, but combined with this machine is giving me good results... Maybee in the new year will look at a grinder to match the machine. (Suggestions anyone?)
