It's most likely solenoid. The continued action of the pump will be something else.

My advice: It sounds like you picked up a bargain and saved a little cash. It's time to spend a little of that saved cash now and have a tech look at your machine for you.

One last observation, the group head is hot, so I guess water is getting there, but no further.

Well- then the blockage is clearly either at the group or between the HX and the group. If you're out of your depth- have it repaired.

Thanks for the feedback. If it's nothing simple, I'll get a professional to check it out.

          Regards

If the group is heating up, then you must have water at the "mushroom" ( and probably at 12 bar also from what you say )
So , there is a blockage in the E61 somewhere.
I would start with removing the mushroom ( M/c off and cooled down)
Check the filter and the "giculeur" jet for blockages, and if that is no help , ..work your way through a strip down of the group valves.
Its not difficult if you are DIY inclined and there are plenty of DIY guides on line to help.
..It also a good way to get to know your new machine.

              Yes B52- it's a possibility.

Bizarre thing is that it's supposedly an unused prize. Why the gicleur would be blocked in a brand new machine I don't know- unless the term unused prize was used to facilitate a sale

I concur on various points here. See if you can find the user manual online and see if there is a parts list/operational routing diagram etc. This will give you an idea on how your machine is routed.
If your grouphead is getting hot, then most likely there is a blockage possibly somewhere within your E61 grouphead where the water gets dispenses for your shot OR possibly you have a bad solenoid valve. Also another thing to note, when you try to do your shot, do you hear a "click" sound indicating that the solenoid valve is activated?

Now, one last other point is that, it is also quite possible that the control board is the issue if it is not a mechanical/plumbing problem. Most of these solenoid valves run 12-24VDC which runs off the control board. So before you start tearing things down, check to see if the solenoid valve is working. Check if the solenoid is getting power.

Like I said previously, I have no experience with your machine. However, I'm very familiar with mine and have quite a bit of an idea with mechatronics.

Boilers steam pressure run around 1.0-1.2 bars and optimum coffee extraction around 9PSIG or so they say. Damn different units, no wonder NASA crashed the damn rover!
No, both gauges are using the same unit of measure, bars. Extraction is done at 9bars. If it were only being done at 9PSI there would be no need for a pump as as you state the boiler is at 1-1.2bars which is 14.7-17.6PSI.

Oh right, my mistake. I was confused. I'm going to edit the earlier post, don't want to confuse others more than I already have.

Far too much discussion of groups solenoids in here, this machine doesnt have one.

How does it feel when you lift the lever? Lots of resistance, none, rough?
It could be cam attached to the lever is not lifting the valve to let water out, i.e. a broken cam shaft
                      or Giclcuer blocked...

Thanks for the reply, man this thing is a puzzle together open.

The lever feels like a sensible amount of resistance required.

Lid off and all electrical connections look fine.

The pump is turning on and pressure rising to 12 when the levers lifted right? The problem is not electrical or OPV

Solved, thank you all for your help. I had a mate that's a coffee tech sort it out, it was a blocked gicleur. He vouched for it being a new machine, but said it's not often you'd see it blocked like that if it hadn't seen use.

Is it brand new? On my isomac I had to open all the outlets for a bit and it took time for the water to fill boiler and find its way to the group.

From the sellers description it was brand new, and it certainly looked that way, (still had protective plastic on the chrome). It was manufactured in 2012, so it wasn't sitting on a store shelf for years as I thought it might have been.

The manual didn't mention anything specific regards to a start-up procedure.

I'm still not sure what the actual blockage was, I tried taking a photo but it didn't really turn out.
