  • ECM Giotto - Broken air bleeder valve and Ulka pump repair.

I have an early model Giotto.

Connected to the pump is a white "air bleeder value". See "Valve S2" in http://www.ulka.it/admin/moduli/m003...g_ULKA_web.pdf.

This became faulty with the small plastic cap holding the secondary value spring on the "bypass" back to the tank physically failing.

This meant excessive amounts of water went back to the tank through the bypass. Combined with a problem with the pump this meant no coffee.

It appears to ok to remove the S2 valve provided you can prime the pump. I removed it and connected the high pressure plastic tube directly to the pump. The pump seems to be self priming but I haven't dried it out to check.

The pump was performing poorly. Dismantled I observed the small spring that holds the return value "ball" had expanded which meant the ball was not mating properly with the piston. I delicately "tightened" the ball end of the spring and it seems to have improved the flow. See http://www.myschiffman.org/cg/CIMG0385-2.JPG and Ulka Pump Repair.

    Anyone had a similar experience.
