I've had a Technika Profi IV for a while and 14 g in the stock basket for me is a significant underdosing. I've been using 19 g, and have recently moved to VST baskets..
I too find 14g is under dosed. I use around 18g in stock baskets.
Is anyone using the precision baskets from talk coffee?
Thanks
Also one other thing to add is that the water coming from the machine has quite a foul taste to it.
Yikes... this question is beyond my pay grade... hopefully someone more experienced on here can help, or you may need to take it back to the store or otherwise seek professional help.
Also one other thing to add is that the water coming from the machine has quite a foul taste to it. Any ideas on how to wash this away? I have run a few tanks worth through and washed all parts.

In terms of cleaning this is my routine. After each shot I brush the shower screen and flush. At the end of a session I will run the pump with a blind filter, firstly tightening and loosening the portafilter to get rid of significant grounds... tipping the water. Then I will seal in the portafilter and give it a good back flush with 9 bar for 5-10 seconds a couple of times.
I have also just received a technika and a vario grinder. Having trouble getting a nice slow pour, very different from my sunbeam. I have 2 questions I'd like to ask (hopefully this is the right place to be asking them)... Firstly I'd like to know do you dose with 14g in the basket as when I tamp the basket seems quite under filled. Watching Scotty Callaghan video and filling the basket his way gives me a dose upwards of 17g? Is that a problem? Also what should my daily cleaning routine be? Do I back flush with blind filter and no chemicals every day? Or just rinse and brush the shower screen? I'm loving my machine and want to keep it pristine.
Thanks for the tips everyone.
Putting beans in the filter to measure seems too be working well and using a dosing technique of grind, collapse, grind, collapse, tamp and things have much improved.
Just need more time at home to practice.
Check out the Scotty Callaghan videos on youtube or the Rocket website. With my new Rocket Giotto I now have consistent dose and tamp following his technique, with minor tweaks to Macap M4D when change beans.
I have an ecm and mazzer mini, I'd agree with thundergod, I use that method ( checked a couple of times with my hop weighing scales and was pretty close). I roast my own beans and recently ran out, had to use store bought beans, almost impossible to not get a gusher. Had similar problems with the milk too, takes a few goes to get used to the lever and some real steam power.
good luck, you'll be happy with the machine
I'm the proud new owner of a new ECM Technika IV profi and Mahlkonig Vario courtesy of Di Bartoli. Taking a while to get used to it with shots generally gushing, with the occasional fantastic shot. Clearly don't have my repeatable and consistent technique down yet as all on the same beans and grind, but only a matter of time until I have this thing mastered. Milk - same thing - first couple of attempts pretty reasonable, but now gone downhill and varying between overfrothed & burnt or insipid with no creamyness except for the occasional success.
When it all comes together, it is a massive step up from the Sunbeam EM6910 with which I could get reliable decent shots and milk.
Have ordered some scales to get an idea of how many grams I'm putting in the basket each time to try and reduce at least one variable and just need to find the time to have a decent play on the new piece of kitchen bling. Will keep you updated as I have more success!
